Chapter 6: Fade to Black, Chapter 6 : Risk and Reward

"What's this?" Mara thought upon seeing that. "The boy has some fight left?"

"Now!" Inyo stated as he, Isobu, and Douma all leaped into the air in sync.

"Coral Shrine!" Isobu shouted as he leaped forward.

Isobu's shallow began to flow around Mara's feet.

"I'm suprised you haven't been consumed with fear" She said as she quickly leaped away.

The shallow turned into an orange-coral like structure.

"Damnit, I missed." Isobu stated. "Douma!"

Douma's shallow formed a giant crossbow that he shot three arrows out of. Mara flipped through the arrows as she ran towards Inyo.

"I won't be able to finish absorbing Kintaro and fight these three at the same time" Mara thought as she ran towards Inyo. "I have to trap them all at once"

The clone of Kintaro that crawled out of Mara's glass portal began to retract back in it as Kintaro's soul began to retract back into his body.

"I didn't think it would reverse so quickly" Mara thought as she looked back at it happening. "I have less energy than I thought."

"Tengubi!" Inyo yelled as his shallow transformed into a stream of fireballs that soared towards Mara.

"Splitting Image!" Mara stated as her shallow formed three clones that rushed ahead of her.

These clones resembled the clone of Kintaro, with glass shards protruding out of their skin resulting in heavy blood pour. They also had glass spirals instead of eyes, with blood dripping there as well. The three clones rushed through the stream of fireballs and Mara leaped above them. Douma shot three more arrows that Mara dodged before landing back on the ground. At this time, the three clones leaped onto Isobu and started stabbing into him with the glass shards on their skin.

"Tsubute!" Inyo yelled as giant rocks and stones began to come down upon the three clones and Isobu. On contact, the three clones broke into many glass shards that flew everywhere. Isobu protected himself by building his coral shrine over his body.

"I thought these things were summoned when you spoke her name" Isobu stated as he slowly rose to his feet. "It seems she can summon them at will"

"Mirror Domain!" Mara shouted as a great amount of her shallow started flowing through the room.

Three mirrors formed behind Inyo, Isobu, and Douma. They began to be sucked into the mirrors.

"Having three at the same time will be taxing" Mara stated. "I'll just bring them directly to Tabuke."

Inyo and Isobu were fully trapped within the mirror made from Mara's shallow. A reflection of Isobu and Inyo could be seen in the mirrors, although they weren't in front of them.

"He's not too far from here." Mara continued. "Plus he's been wanting Kintaro anyway. Wait where's Kintar-"

                                      *BOOM*

Shira leaped forwards and punched Mara.

"Asai-shuryoku!"

"Kin...taro..." Douma stated just before his head was sucked into the mirror. "just..."

The only thing left out of the mirror was his arm holding his crossbow made out of shallow. He shot one more arrow before the crossbow disappeared and his entire body was trapped in the mirror. The arrow soared towards Shira quickly.

                                  *SWOOSH*

He noticed just in time to jump out of the way. Then, it started going towards Mara, who was still picking herself up from Shira's punch. When she noticed the arrow, she extended her arm towards it. The arrow began to form glass shards around it, and once it was fully coated, it disappeared.

"You're lucky" Mara stated. "If I wasn't tasked with transporting his son everywhere, I'd have enough energy to kill all of you at once"

"It's hard to say that in your position" Shira stated. "Being that you can't fight anymore"

The mirrors containing Inyo, Isobu, and Douma began to fade as they crawled out of them. A glass portal formed below Mara, that she started to sink into.

"Shira, was it?" Mara stated as she started going through her portal. "Don't forget my name"

"Wait!" Isobu stated as he ran towards them." He tried to grab Mara but the portal disappeared.

"She got away"

"Wait, Isobu" Douma stated. "She would've killed all of us."

"If it wasn't for that boy" Inyo added.

The three men all rose to their feet and walked towards Shira.

"You must be Kintaro's koshomura" Inyo said. "What's your name?"

"It's Shira"

"Thanks for your help, Shira" Douma stated.

The group heard a familiar siren sounding in the distance.

"It's them"

"Who?" Shira asked.

"The Drowning Fist" Douma replied.

"Shira, did Mara mention anybody, anybody that you'd think she'd operate under?"

"When you guys were trapped in those mirrors, she said she would bring you directly to Tabuke. Also, that he's not far from here"

The sound of the echoing sirens grew closer and closer.

"We have to leave" Douma suggested.

"Shira, do you mind with we take this conversation elsewhere?"

"Kintaro?" Shira thought.

Shira didn't get a response.

"Yeah, let's go"

The group left the building and fled the entire area with haste. As he left with the group, Shira was informed on Tabuke, The Drowning Fist, and Inyo's organization. But, something else had his attention and his curiosity guided him to ask a few pondering questions.

"Kintaro, why aren't you speaking?" Shira thought.

Kintaro didn't reply, but Shira could tell he was listening.

"You looked into that woman's eyes purposely, didn't you?"

Kintaro still didn't reply, but Shira could just feel the truth about Kintaro's actions.

"Just tell me" Shira continued. "How did you know I wouldn't have let you die like that?"

"Truthfully" Kintaro painfully replied. "I didn't. But, I had to take the chance"

"You sound disappointed...are you feeling regretful?"

"No. It's just...what happened was not something I've experienced before"

"With that spirit?"

"Yeah, I've never felt that type of danger before" Kintaro admitted. "Being fully aware of impending death makes you recollect on your entire life. I just saw everything that transpired in one moment. But then, I saw you."

"You saw me?"

"More accurately, the outline of your shallow, it was pulling mine from the depths she was dragging me down to." Kintaro answered. "I thought it was too late. I thought I was wrong, and that you wouldn't regain your will to fight."

"Thanks for taking that chance" Shira concluded. "You helped put my mind back where it needed to be"

"Shira" Douma inquired. "I can tell you have a righteous heart. We can always use people like you"

"To stand against Tabuke" Isobu added.

"Yes, you and Kintaro are much more than we could ask" Inyo praised. "A great addition, indeed."

"I'm pretty sure Kintaro and I both are onboard with this" Shira responded. "But, I have a few questions"

"Ask away"

"The main one floating around in my mind right now is about you, Mr.Inyo" Shira expressed. "How did you become a koshomura?"
