Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Flawed Jewel

It was nearly noon, she noted.

Emmy walked home as she took in the familiar sights dotted across the streets of Mondstadt, taking breaks to sniff flowers and the like. She took her time as she traveled to her house, taking in the morning wind as it shifted her hair which was soaked in sweat, Emmy shivered.

Ah, she had forgotten that she was covered in sweat, thus when the wind came she felt cold, the pleasant mood she had previously was gone leaving only a biting chill on her skin. Emmy hurried to her house, which caused the wind to whip her harshly. She walked east before taking walking up some stairs, arriving before her door.

She cheerfully opened the door, expecting to see her parents covered in injuries but alive as they always had instead she was met with the creaking of the front door and an empty living room.

'Ah, yes mom and dad are not home, again,' Emmy thought, slapping her face and quickly pushing those thoughts down before they could take hold of her mind.

Closing the door Emmy walked inside the house with careful steps, going upstairs to where her bedroom was located, she dumped her bag inside before leaving to take a quick shower. Emmy filled the tub with hot water before throwing in some soap and a rubber ducky by the name of Ed.

"Hey, Ed do you think mom and dad are safe right now? I mean I know that they are strong but I can't help but worry you know," Emmy spoke to the inanimate object without questioning how weird it was for her to do so.

Ed didn't speak but Emmy nodded as if she heard something.

"I think so too Ed, we are alike huh?"

Emmy didn't think it was weird she spoke to her toys all the time when her parents weren't there to speak to her. She spent most of her time at home or the library before Fischl became her friend so she just spoke to her toys, they always kept her company in her parent's absence.

"It's just I don't know, you know. I wish we could spend more time together but I guess I can't complain since my parents are still alive, right Ed?" Emmy smiled, its reflection on the water surface seemed a bit... off.

"I get that a lot you know 'you're parents are alive be grateful' and 'stop whining some people don't even have parents ' and when looking back on it I thought that what they said made sense."

Ed, the inanimate object again didn't respond, frankly, it couldn't but Emmy didn't let that bother her. Her smile only grew wider and more... deranged?

"Ed, you know it's as if kids who don't see their parents often get shrugged off a lot because they still have them right? Isn't that a bit unfair, I mean look at Fischl nobody talks to her except me and no kids our age talk to me except her."

"Ah, Ed you don't know Fischl right? Listen she is one of the best people in the world, okay, and don't anyone tell you otherwise, if they do... ehehe. She is my first friend, eh other than you, of course, no I'm not replacing you, Ed. What got into you hmph!"

"I'm not speaking to you anymore, but since you're my first friend I'll make an exception just for you, kay~," Emmy said, affectionately rubbing Ed against her face.

Emmy washed as she continued talking to Ed, where she spent more than 30 minutes bathing and speaking to her inanimate friend. She finally finished bathing and got out of the water, draining it away and wiping herself with a towel. She placed Ed in his original spot on a cabinet and closed it up.

"It's been nice talking Ed, it's been a while, have a nice day~" Emmy cheerfully shut the door to the bathroom door before going to her room, humming in joy.

***

Emmy returned to her room and the second she closed the door the system started its interrogation.

[Host? It appears that there may be some mental instabilities present, Do you require assistance?]

"There aren't any, I'm perfectly fine," Emmy said softly but her tone was one of finality.

[Affirmative, should the host need assistance the system is always here host. The host will be trained to manipulate Energy through the fingertips.]

"Hmm, by the way, the system was the reason I could run earlier because of energy? does it have healing properties or is that my healing factor?"

[It is both, that the increased boost of energy generated by the awakening and circulation of energy by the host had boosted the healing factors' potency, allowing the host to complete the exercise with not much difficulty.]

"Hmm, that's quite a nice touch, I hope it stays like this forever. So about the energy?"

[The system recommends the host to sit upright or crossed-legged as they are the two most optimum conditions for meditation.]

Emmy followed the system's advice and chose to sit cross-legged, she wanted to see why those protagonists in martial arts novels sat that way. She sat crossed-legged as she rested her hands in the middle of her thighs waiting for the system to continue.

[The host is already capable of sensing and controlling Energy internally through the Energy Circuit, all that is to be done now is to draw it out from those pathways to your fingertips.]

"Okay! Let's do this thing." Emmy said, closing her eyes to increase her concentration.

Emmy looked back to the feeling she had in the training field and searched for it and grabbed ahold of it. Then she slowly tried to push it towards and out of her palms, It didn't work as she intended however as most of the Energy retreated to the circuits.

"Hmm, what's wrong with it? Was it too much? Did it have too much density? Weight?" Emmy almost drove herself dizzy to find the answer to her failure in using all the Energy she intended to.

"It worked so fine today too."

[External manipulation is one of the toughest arts to master in Energy- related fields, but the host will be able to do it.

Hint: Pathfinder]

To Emmy this hint couldn't be more obvious, it was literally in the name. She began experimenting to see where her Energy would willingly go out of her palm and found many access points, with this she was able to expel the amount of energy she wanted to.

"Yes! Who's the best? I'm the best!"

Emmy cheered as she looked at the clear mist before her eyes, shaping it to her will. She had so many questions. If it was so clear why could she see it? Why is it so clear in the first place?

[To the host questions, the host does not only 'see' Energy but has developed a special technique, this technique is obtained by all who can feel energy allowing them to see it naturally. This energy is also the host's and therefore the host can sense it naturally, upon awakening this technique.]

"Then what about External Energy? How can I 'see' that?"

[The host is recommended to attain mastery over the use of Internal Energy before trying to manipulate External Energy, it would be much easier to manipulate by then.]

"Okay... I'll hold off on it for now," Emmy agreed to the suggestion made by the system.

"So, how do I do that?"

[The host must use internal energy, shape it into different shapes other than a mist and change its properties.]

'Change its properties?'

[Yes, Energy can be transformed into elemental forms if the user has enough control and understanding of the element.]

Emmy thought about what the system said and suddenly had a brilliant idea. Not one to delay action she walked out of her room and down the stairs to go into the kitchen, ignoring the photos on the wall. She made her way through the open doorway and opened a cabinet before taking out a fire starter.

Carefully she placed firewood into the bottom of the stove and used the fire starter to light it, putting it away after she succeeded. Emmy closed off the stove fire with the metal gate before sitting down in front of the fire. Emmy took a deep breath before closing her eyes, feeling the heat on her skin as she concentrated on that source of heat.

'Okay, think fire, hot things,' Emmy thought as she imagined some things relating to heat, trying to associate it with the external heat she felt on her skin.

Emmy held her hand out as she thought of fire and all its various forms. She thought of the warmth on her skin and the feeling she had when spending time in her imagination adventuring around the world, spending time with her family, with Fischl.

Having these thoughts seemed to envelop her in a warm sensation and she tried to bring that sensation outwards into the world, using her [Energy]. She directed these feelings she held in her heart onto her Energy circuits. She nearly jumped as she felt a heat traveling down her arm and onto her palm.

Emmy opened her eyes to see an orange flame the size of a small ball sitting on the surface of her palms. It danced on her palm energetically, and she observed it in wonder, part not believing her eyes.

[The host seems to have succeeded quite quickly as usual. The system however recommends to not conjure fire in the living space, it is quite dangerous.]

"Uh, oh yeah," Emmy snapped out of her revere and tried to put out the fire by thinking of transferring the Energy back into a neutral form, failing twice before she succeeded on the third.

"That was amazing!"

[Indeed it was host, but the system suggests that you should be having lunch right about now. You still haven't eaten and Energy, unfortunately, cannot be a substitute if one requires nutrients of any kind.]

'So it can still be used but it would not be healthy in any way huh?' Emmy thought, keeping such an important piece of information in mind as she planned to use the already lit stove to cook some food.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

Hmm?

Emmy paused her mind rapidly going through the number of people she knew and why they would come to her house, she walked to the door, and by the time she arrived she had thought up hundreds of scenarios, their outcomes, and possible way to counter them. Emmy held her right hand behind her back secretly channeling her Energy as she confidently opened the door with her left.

When she saw who was at the door however she cut off the Energy flow and a smile graced her face, She greeted the person happily.

"Hello, Fischl!"

"Greetings, faithful citizen, fare thee well this pleasant day, may we journey upon the grape fields and dine on a feast."

It was Fischl, and she was carrying a basket for some reason. Emmy thought for a moment before coming to a realization, then she felt her lips tug ever so lightly, laughing she asked.

"Are you inviting me to a picnic? How sweet you are Amy, really cute."

Fischl sputtered and Emmy laughed even harder.
