"You are up again…" Declan commented.
"I can't sleep, my head is splitting," Viaan whined.
He pressed his fingers against his temples rubbing gently, Declan placed the hot pail down as he sat beside the boy.
"Are you thirsty?" Declan asked.
Viaan gawked at Declan confused, his throat was on fire just swallowing his saliva alone. He was the only one in the room today by himself with this older man.
A knock nearly sent Viaan in the air, he thought just a tap would have knocked the whole edifice over on its side. A smiling plump man with a round face dressed in a black long shirt and pants waddled forward peering up at the new face.
Clutching him by the chin he looked deeply into the kid's sea-green eyes, his black iris had become vertical like a cat. His skin was now porcelain white and cold to touch, his bodily temperature drastically dropped overnight.
"Usually they are out cold, this one is up." He laughed hardily.
"I thought the same thing…" Declan agreed.
Viaan didn't want to be there, these people scared him yet he could show no fear. His valor came out through his thickheaded words to come off bold and threatening.
"I have big expectations for you Viaan." he smiled.
He noticed right away his sense of smell had been elevated, the man's unique odor rose into his nose causing him to wince. Bowing his head into his lap he wanted to hide from the stench stinging his airways.
"My name is Iden, well Mr. Iden to you." Iden snickered.
The snowy blonde said nothing, he kept his head down. There was no reason to greet him, he thought. Just a fat man who was showing off, his new life was now in an unstable structure weathering away in the blistering heat beating down on them in a stuffy shanty.
"He is feeling unwell, please take it easy on him." Declan pleaded.
Iden's tiny fingers ran through the kid's short locks, snatching him up by his hair and forcing Viaan to gaze into his eyes, tightening his grip; his eyes seemed to pop out of their sockets with rage.
"Do you know why you were turned child?" He snarled.
His rancid breath struck Viaan with each word, a small whiff that felt like it took several years off his life staring at his stained yellow crooked teeth mashed away from his unhealthy eating habits and heavy usage of drugs could be smelt.
"No..why…?" Viaan gagged.
"Because now I own you, that tramp Linetta sure knows how to pick 'em." He spouted.
Releasing Viaan, he looked over at Declan. His gaze uneasy, he fiddled his fingers anxiously looking away from him.
"She sure does Mr. Iden…" Declan agreed.
"He is working tomorrow, show him the ropes."
"Isn't that too soon?" Declan argued.
"He is up, hence he can work!" Iden declared.
"Mr. Iden!" Declan shouted.
Viaan merely smiled as he jumped up to push Declan aside standing on his own two feet confidently, Mr. Iden grinned back, turning away from the two.
"Viaan, don't disappoint me."
Declan's whole body shook, his appearance frightened the man; he was resigned to his fate in a shifty pile of aging wood barely being held together.
"If you feel sick tomorrow, you need to tell me Viaan," Declan stated.
"Don't worry about me." Viaan boasted.
"Viaan, you don't even know what the job is!" Declan scolded.
He crawled back on the bed pulling the sheets up around himself rolling to his side squeezing tight against the wall, Declan watched in shock.
Viaan stuck his hand in the air waving it around a few seconds before settling back down.
"Don't worry about me old man."
"Viaan, listen to me, please…I think you are having a delayed reaction!"
Viaan was already sleeping, Declan let out a loud sigh to himself as the rebellious teenager accepted his existence.
"You are such a troublemaker…"
Declan sat on the opposite bed to keep watch over Viaan in case he needed help, emptiness washed over him as he kept a close eye on the kid. Declan clenched his fists pushing them into the threadbare bed given to them.
A white light struck Viaan, shielding his eyes with his hands he was nearly blinded by the cackling of what he thought was a witch, dimming down he noticed a girl.
She was bent over at a small stream, her light teal hair caught his attention. Halfway down her back fine loose strands were weaved into a perfect straight pleat tied off with a limp black bow.
"Hello?" Viaan asked.
Hearing him speak you could see her ears perk up, standing up he turned to face the boy she smiled broadly at him.
"Your clothing…" Viaan noted.
Gathering the thin material coiling around her body she ambled forward touching his face, his eyes widened. A fixed stare as delicate translucent wings reflected rainbows in the light like prisms stretching into vast white space around them coloring the walls behind her with a spectrum of colors, flapping lightly against the non-existent breeze.
"Viaan, I am the one who called you here."

"You are the reason why I am here?" He questioned.
"I watched you from the forest high in the tops of the trees, you were having fun with your family…" She explained.
"Did you purposely make me meet Linetta?" Viaan growled.
"No one knows of my doings, I manipulated the ball from that small boy's hands so you would wander aimlessly into my clutches." She explained.
He felt infuriated, he was separated from his friends and family to be part of some trickery from some human-sized dragonfly.
"I knew Lenetta would find you and take you for her own."
"What I am asking is why?" Viaan inquired.
The faery paused staring down at the void beneath them, she batted her fragile snowflake-like lashes against her sea-green eyes seemingly glowing.
"Even though we are two different species you are bonded to me…"
"That doesn't answer my question!" Viaan shouted.
"For now, I need you to believe in our bond."
As everything began to fade around them, a tingling could be felt through his fingertips. A power surging deep inside his chest caused him to sit straight up in bed.
"Are you okay?" Declan asked.
"I am fine…" Viaan muttered.
"Are you ready for your first meal?' He questioned.
"Meal?"
So many things went through his mind, mainly those of disgust picturing what his first meal would be; he would be handed several vials filled with sanguine fluid.
"Do you need help opening it?"
"No…but why is this what I am eating?" Viaan shouted.
"Vampires are looked down upon Viaan, we are low maintenance and can be kept long term without food."
Viaan squeezed the glass, he felt humiliated by the prospect that this is the life he was being pushed into from a faery changed to suit her desire.
"Linetta is generally super careful…"
"She caught me off guard, that is all…" Viaan scorned.
"But now you are here, Viaan."
"Well whatever, I am here now."
Viaan jumped up from the bed to open the door on the opposite end peeking out, he noticed right away he wasn't too far from what looked like a cotton field that carried for miles. An earthy-musty smell made him realize why they kidnapped people.
"Viaan, do you know why they turn us?" Declan inquired.
He nodded his head back and forth, he shut the door holding tight to his face sliding down holding his breath. Shaken by the sight in front of him, he knew his life would be hard from that point on as Declan strolled over.
"No one wants a lowly creature, Viaan…"
The world seemed to crash around him, everything and everyone he knew was gone with the snap of a finger; no longer was he a boy from a small town.
"This is my life now?" He pondered.
"We all try to take care of each other, please let's do our best." Declan smiled.
"I will try my best, Declan."
Frozen with contempt for those words, the back of his mind was reeling. He had to make these kids in this cabin his new family whether he liked it or not. He had left the vials of blood on the bed unprepared to take them yet.
"You should get more rest, Viaan."
"Understood…"
The snowy blonde noticed a small brown dresser drawer beside his bedside, he placed the vials gently inside after wiping the white dust that had gathered on the top. He sat there watching Declan stare up at the ceiling for a couple of moments before gawking over at Viaan.
"If you need me just wake me up okay?" He yawned.
"You are going to sleep?" Viaan asked.
"Wait till you develop lethargy, you will thank me."
"Lethargy?!" He shouted.
"It will hit you in a few days before you start sun training."
"Sun…training…"
Declan could be heard snoring, Viaan frowned, not sure what to do with this information other than tomorrow will not be easy for him when it comes.
"I am doomed…"
