Chapter 189: 189. Choices

Making his way back to the city, Rei sat down on the roof of the palace. This palace was where he was raised as a kid, and eventually left to become its enemy.

Creating a dagger, Rei twirled the blade around his hand as he thought about everything he knew so far.

'Dad killed mum because she was 'evil'. Dad eventually turned towards Kyra and Lia, but not me. When I was about to die, he even split his soul to save mine. Someone is behind the corruption of Kyra and Lia. Kyra was probably the main target first because of her Fate God Title. The someone is also an Akashic Record Branch holder.' Rei thought as the twirl of his dagger increased in speed.

'To do anything about this, I would need the Akashic Record Branch to even just examine it.' Rei thought as he stopped twirling his dagger.

"Where the hell do I even find it?!" Rei muttered in anger as he flung the dagger as hard as he could into the distance.

The clouds split apart from the force as Rei took a deep breath to calm himself.

Laying down on his back, Rei turned his gaze to the sky.

Not even ten seconds later, Ophelia and Miko appeared. Seeing Rei lay down whilst also keeping his senses out for them, Miko and Ophelia turned to each other before back at Rei.

"Seems like you were expecting us." Miko smiled as Rei nodded.

"How is the council taking the information?" Rei asked.

"Mix responses again." Ophelia rolled her eyes.

Rei frowned.

"What do you mean?" He asked sitting up.

Sighing slightly, Ophelia and Miko sat down as well.

"They've split into two factions again. One wants to run and hide to save the people, whilst one wants to fight to the bitter end. The factions who want to run and hide, say that they don't want any unnecessary sacrifices in a war we can't win. Whilst the one who wants to fight to the bitter death say that their sacrifice will pave the path for their descendants to have a safe future." Ophelia complained.

"I mean they both have a point but splitting up at this point is worse. If you run, then you're going to be like lambs to be killed by a pack of wolves. They'll be so focused on running they'll hardly fight back. As for the people who want to fight, if they lose and they most likely will... then that's it. We're in a precarious situation of all or nothing. We can't split up." Ophelia said as both Rei and Miko nodded.

"What would you choose Rei?" Miko asked as they turned their gaze to Rei.

"What would I choose huh?" Rei muttered.

He could run with Eve, Bai Wu and other people he cares about to other worlds. Even to the Douluo Dalu world so he could be with his daughter. But if he fights, he's not sure if he can save Lia or Kyra. Worst case scenario would be him killing them for good as the corruption would follow them always if he didn't get rid of it.

It all boils down to run and live a life with people he loves whilst giving up on Lia and Kyra or fight and maybe having to kill them permanently. If he ran, he'll be giving up on finding a solution on his sisters and let them be prey to the corruption. If he fought, he'll have to make the hard decision of killing his precious sisters.

Closing his eyes, Rei clenched his fist.

"I- I would fight." Rei said opening his eyes. He'll rather have to kill his sister's than to let someone control them and force them to do what they don't want to.

With his power, he should be able to store their soul after he's killed them so he can wait for the time to repair their souls.

"I see." Miko said seeing the pain behind his decision. She didn't know why it was that hard for him but she knew he'll carry it out.

Rei was about to ask them as well but pause when she saw Ophelia asleep.

"She's tired. She's been working this entire time without rest." Miko smiled as she placed a finger over her lips.

"I thought gods don't need rest?" Rei asked as he didn't need it.

"Yes, but there is still a limit to the mental toll a god can take. Push it too far and we can't perform to our maximum." Miko said as her tails swished around.

"I see." Rei said quietly as to not disturb her.

"How's Eve and Bai Wu?" Rei asked.

"They've broken through quickly. Eve's hit rank 10 and will be challenging her trials soon while Bai Wu is at rank 9." Miko replied as Rei nodded.

"What are you going to do about the situation?" Rei asked Miko to see her decision.

"I don't know. On one side I want my people to live. But on the other, I also know that without dealing with the source, we'll be constantly living with a blade above our heads." Miko said shaking her head.

Rei nodded as it was understandable.

"By the way, where is the war god?" Rei asked as he never saw him around. He was the person the figure warned him not to turn his back to so Rei wondered why he never saw the war god around.

"He and the element god are fighting in different war zones so you'll hardly see them." Miko replied.

"So what are we waiting for now? Are we going to wait for the council to decide? What about the evacuation for the residents?" Rei asked turning his head to the city. Even though it was times of war, there are still kids playing around as the gods were working hard on keeping the city safe.

"As you say, we're waiting on the decision for the council. We need to stand together in this war so we need to have the same goal. As for the evacuation, we can't carry it out yet. The gods don't have enough power to send the residents to other worlds. There are just too many residents." Miko sighed as she thought about all the children in the city.

"... I can do it." Rei said suddenly.

"What?"

"I can send everyone here to another world. But I doubt some worlds can even hold them. If anything, I'll have to create something similar to a second higher realm." Rei replied as Miko paused in shock.

"You can do that?!" She whispered.

"I'm not sure, the laws behind the higher realms are complicated and numerous. Not to mention, if I did do this, the enemies will have a good chance to attack us as I'll be preoccupied with creating this new realm." Rei replied.

"...That'll work. No wait, depending on how we do this, there's a better way!" Miko said excitedly.

"Huh? What are you talking about?" Ophelia said waking up.

"Ophi! We can do it. We can both save and fight against the horde!" Miko said excitedly.

"What do you mean?" Ophelia asked with a serious face.

"If Rei succeeds in making a second higher realm, we can teleport all of the residents there. Not to mention, we can fight without worries as we can teleport to the new realms should we be in danger. We can kill the Forsaken Beasts without as many risks!" Miko said as Ophelia turned to Rei.

Rei shrugged feeling her gaze on him.

"The time needed to make this new realm will take a while. In the meantime, we don't know if the enemy will launch a full-on attack. I would also need time to evacuate the citizens." Rei said Ophelia nodded.

"This is good. We can calm the council with this as it allows for both sides to get what they want whilst working together. Come on Miko, we're going." Ophelia said as Miko nodded and stood up.

Watching them teleport away, Rei turned his head to another location.

"How long do you think you can hide from me honestly." Rei smiled as Vex showed himself with a grin.

"After finally ascending to god hood, I can hide from even true gods yet I cannot hide from you." Vex smiled.

"It seems like you made use of the full advantages of my blessing." Rei said as Vex nodded and sat down.

"Massively increase to cultivation if I'm in a certain state is more powerful than I thought. During this state of emptying out my mind, I gained an epiphany on my skills and managed to develop my own god title." Vex smiled as Rei became curious.

"And that title is?" Rei asked.

"God of misdirection. It's similar to the god of perception I've heard so much about but I'm on the high end of True God. I'm very close to True God Emperor." Vex smiled as Rei inspected him with the Akashic Records.

When unsealed, the holder of this title may even covertly hide their records or misdirect it with different values tricking even the eyes of someone who holds a branch of the Akashic Records. Unsealing conditions unknown. As this is a newly formed god title, it will grow in time.>

Rei was surprised at the hidden potential of the title.

Seeing the description, Rei had an idea of how to hide his full power to even other Akashic Records.

Whilst talking to Vex, Rei also began to mask his own records as it made him seem like a low tier True God Emperor.

"Say Vex, what are you planning to do in this war?" Rei asked as Vex paused.

"I think if I had a choice, I would run for now. If you live, you have more time to find out a better solution you know? You just have to search for it. There will always be a reward for determination, you just need the will to push on." Vex said as Rei thought about it and nodded.

"I chose to fight since I have the power to." Rei replied.

"Yes, but not everyone can be like you. We don't have unstoppable power nor are we at the True God Emperor realm. We're at worse, cannon fodder. But even then, we still have to play our own part. Without cannon fodder to reduce the stress on you, you'll eventually break yourself from the stress." Vex smiled as he stood up.

"Where are you going?" Rei asked.

"I have to train and solidify my foundations. Once I do, I'll be able to contribute more to the war. Even if I'm just cannon fodder." Vex smiled as he accepted that his role will never be as big as Rei's. When he was on Earth, he never lost sleep thinking about how millionaires were better than him. Why should he be any different now? Everyone had their own destinies. It just meant Rei's was more difficult than his since he needed that much power.

"Next time we meet, let's show them the power of weebs who gained power." Vex grinned before disappearing.

Rei smiled seeing Vex leave. He too stood up as he should take the time to see the laws of the higher realms while he had the chance.

Neon panels appeared around him as a flood of information blocked his sights.

'Let's do this.'
