Chapter 5: Chapter 4

When we return to Midtown school for science and technology, I have solved our imminent problems.

Together with Ned, we will go to Peter's house, still using the excuse of the sprained ankle; then I will talk with my parents and tell them that we decided to do a pajama party, that we brought a Lego model or something and to not worry. In this way, when tomorrow Peter will wake up, I will be there to help him understand his new powers.

In the end, the plan went really well. Mr. Harrington was already notified by both my parents and May that they will not be able to pick us up and that we will return home alone.

Convincing Ned was easy, even if it really required us to buy a Lego model during our trip to Peter's house.

My poor wallet, Lego models cost too much...

Then, at Peter's house, we dined with a couple of pizzas, while playing with the Legos, until Ned decided it was time to go home. Peter was not really in his best form, falling asleep a couple of times before Ned decided to leave.

After Ned left us I took the situation into my hands, moving Peter to his bed, and cleaning the mess we made. Then I took an inflatable mattress and, throwing it near Peter's bed, decided on resting till morning.

As Peter kept rolling and grunting all night, probably due to the transformation starting to affect his body, I was only able to rest for a couple of hours.

In the end, someone fell on me, mumbling random curses, "What?!"
"Good morning Peter," I say, fully aware of who fell on me.

"Sig, what are you doing here?" Peter asks while trying to move to a better position, putting his hands on both sides of my head.

"Do you remember when yesterday Ned and I brought you home? And that you were sick? Do you really tough that I will leave you alone?" I answer.

"You do have a point there," concluded Peter, now less dazed by the sleep.

"I will ask you how are you feeling, but first, could you move? You are crushing me" I start teasing him, not really annoyed by the situation.

"Oh, sorry..." Says the one who is uncomfortable with his position, before going pale.

"You are not moving," I keep teasing, having realized that his spider power has glued him to the floor.

"I can't, my hands are stuck to the floor..." he began to panic, and I became curious.

He will break the floor to free himself? or he will be able to control his powers?

"You know that this pose is kind of awkward, if someone were to enter right now, no one will believe that there is nothing between us." To see how far he could go, I decide to keep teasing him, while a real smile appears on my face.

"Sig!! Give me a hand! I'm really stuck to the floor!" He shouts as the red of embarrassment joins the white of panic.

The increasing panic and embarrassment on his face are so amusing, that I can't stop myself to keep up the teasing act. "Sure, sure, whatever lets you sleep at night, you could simply admit the truth and stop pretending to be forced in this position."

"Sig, I swear I am locked, and could you please stop talking like this, if someone hears us they will misunderstand even more" he finally stops panicking and tries to regain a bit of rationality.

Seeing this I know that the game is ending, so I decide to help him "Ok, ok, I believe you, now calm down, I am sure that when you do you will be able to let go of the floor."

It took him only a handful of seconds to return to a normal state and regain control of his body. The moment he can detach his hands he jumps from the inflated mattress, and I speak "See, what did I say."

"You were right, but what the hell?! Is this one of your pranks?" He asks, confused about the situation he is in. "Nope," I answer, still unsure if the idea of telling him a good chunk of the truth as I have chosen to do will bite me in the ass later.

"Then what is happening?! Why I collapsed yesterday, and why my hand was stuck to the floor?" He keeps asking, increasing the volume of his voice with every word.

"What do you remember about yesterday? Before you fell unconscious?" I give a question as an answer, trying to defuse the situation.

"I remember that I was bitten by a spider," he says after a couple of seconds, and as he does I start explaining, "Yep, you were bitten by a spider that was used as a test for the super-soldier serum by Oscorp," "Wait, the super serum, the one of Captain America?" As I hoped he got sidetracked as soon as I spoke about a superhero.

Using this question as a springboard, I start explaining how he goes his power. "Yep, the government made a deal with Oscorp to recreate it, but it is still in the testing phase, so it wasn't tested on a human yet, only on a couple of animals. Surprisingly, the animals didn't develop any significant power. But it seems that the spider that bitten you has, in some way, isolated and fused the serum with his poison, creating something that has given you superpowers."

"Superpowers?! Me!? That's impossible! And how the hell you should know all of this? You are pranking me!" His voice keeps rising and falling as his emotions do, from shock to disbelief, only to end in rage.

"How many times I should tell you that I'm not pranking you?" knowing that this is a far more logical solution than my answer, I can see how he came to this conclusion. But unfortunately, I was telling the truth.

"Then how could you, a student from high school, know all of this?" He asks again, aware that I am leaving something out of the discussion.

"Well, I may have kept something from you and Ned..." I admit, knowing that I am on a slippery slope and that I put myself on it.

"What? Are you an agent of the S.H.I.E.L.D or the Hydra!?" I'll admit that his words come kind of unexpected, even if they do make sense from his point of view.

"No! I simply have superpowers," and this is how I ended dropping the bomb on him.
"Simply have superpowers..." a blank face is the only thing that comes together with his words.

"Yep, I have them from two weeks ago, and knowing that you will gain them soon, I decided to wait before telling you" I try to salvage the situation, as it isn't going exactly as I planned.

Maybe because I didn't plan most of this conversation.

"Wait, you knew I was going to be bitten by a mutant spider, and let it happen?!" Peter starts screaming as the implications of my words became clear to him.

"But you gained superpowers..." I start muttering, before being interrupted.

"That could have killed me! Or turned me into a giant spider! Or given me super cancer!" He keeps screaming, letting me know that my idea of letting him know the truth may not have been the best.

Trying to salvage the situation, I start justifying my actions, "That's unlikely, in the future that I have seen you were alive and well so..."

"So you can see the future?" He asks as seriousness replaces rage on his face.

"More or less... I mean, I sometimes can see a bit of the future. But it changes with every action I take, as it is made without considering me," I explained, hoping to prevent a catastrophic end.

"So. I. Could. Have. Died?!" He asks, stressing every single word.

"That's a possible interpretation, but I was there with you, nearby in case you would need me..." I reply with a low voice, fully conscious of how much I have shrewd up.

He takes a couple of breaths before telling a single word, "Leave."

"But..." I try to explain, but I can't utter more than a word before he starts screaming again."Leave! You could have talked to me! But no, you kept silent! Scheming over my life, like I was a project! You must have thought something like: Let's see what happens when he gets bitten."

"That's false, I only wanted..." I try again to explain, but he interrupts me again, shouting with tears in his eyes, "No. Fucking. Excuses. You took a decision that changed my life. Without asking. You manipulated me, your best friend. Leave, I do no wanna see you ever again."

"I'm sorry..." I can only leave. With tears streaming down my face, I leave Peter alone and hurt, disappearing from the apartment, appearing in my room, where I start sobbing.
