The Great Ancient Wizard, The Last Creation (3)
The Elixir, the essence and ultimate conclusion of alchemy that granted eternal life. The mortal that reached this impossibility and grabbed it would transcend mortality. Only then could he be said to be a ‘complete being.’ Regardless of the effectiveness of the Elixir itself, the process of ductility alone reached that point.
“So, I wanted to do it with Grandpa Bernard.”
The Elixir was, in fact, his alchemy teacher Bernard’s long-cherished desire. Because of this, he wanted to try with him if possible, but…the situation now, facing a battle with the Devil. It was better to master one more skill. Above all, creating the Elixir was also the most likely way to solve the World’s Curse that even Evan couldn’t shake off.
‘People have been saying that I’m an alchemy master, but I don’t dare say that I’m an actual master until I’ve created the Elixir.’
It was in the same vein that Bernard didn’t call himself a master…
“I’m sorry, Grandpa. I’ll take the title of alchemy master first.”
Well, perhaps Bernard would have a chance later. Evan smiled softly as he recalled Bernard’s expression as he handed over the Elixir’s collaborative research recipe.
“Maybell, leave me alone for some time. Don’t let anyone in.”
“All right, Master.”
Maybell felt excited by Evan’s serious appearance but managed to step back without touching him. Although Evan accepted Maybell’s mischief in most situations, she also stepped down, knowing when to leave as he was about to make a marvelous creation, a monumental first in history.
“Shall I make a barrier?”
“Yes, please.”
“Okay.”
Evan was left alone and arranged the space for the creation. Creating the ideal space for alchemy was simple. To keep the alchemist in perfect condition and to keep out any interference from outside factors. Evan solved it bluntly, holding everything in place with the power of Annihilation.
“Take all the artifacts off…”
He changed into a work suit for alchemy, feeling like he had never been more prepared. Evan’s determination ahead of the Elixir was proof.
“Whoa…”
He let out a deep sigh. And he stopped breathing at that moment. This was because the creation may be disturbed by his breath.
‘All right, perfect.’
At Evan’s level, not breathing oxygen for a week or two wouldn’t hurt his body. This was because the enormous power that circulated in his body completely replaced the nutrients needed by the body. Pure magic was hard, but the Dark Magic had somewhat similar properties. Therefore, on the Yo-Ma Great War fan bulletin board, all those who suggest the hypothesis, “What should we do to kill the Demon King in the real world?” were eliminated.
‘Prepare the ingredients.’
Phoenix feathers. Origin of Evil. The Grass of Innocence. Glacier Tears. The Holy Water of Life. Lastly, the Hell Ruby. Plus, the petals from today’s World Tree.
Some of the ingredients had already been made in the form of reagents with Bernard. Combining that with the ingredients that hadn’t yet been added and a few supplements. Alchemy was the study of perfection. Evan had to do a myriad of new calculations to add the ingredients of the World Tree petals to the recipe he had. But it wasn’t a bad feeling. Instead, he had a good hunch.
‘The old recipe is just a hypothesis made by alchemists who couldn’t reach the convenience of truth, after all.’
Evan and Bernard complemented the recipe perfectly by acquiring and analyzing the ingredients, but the individuality of all the ingredients was so great that they could not guarantee that. Especially in the case of the Hell Ruby, Evan was quite wild in the tower and played outside the table in many ways, so it was completed with something much more substantial than initially expected.
“That’s why we’re going to increase the number of phoenix feathers, but even so, we couldn’t fully cover the anxiety of our energy.”
However, the petals of the World Tree had the effect of suppressing their wild energy and keeping them calm. It was a force that affected Evan’s strong mentality. At best, the emotional scraps left by the dead Demons could be erased without difficulty. Evan prepared the shiny purple petals by grinding them finely.
‘Then.’
Evan’s eyes turned to the Hell Ruby that was placed on the table. Since its completion in a magic-rich environment, it was regularly shining with black imprints running around on the surface of the brilliant red jewel, which looked like black blood vessels. The reagent, on the other side, had already contained all other materials except the Hell Ruby.
Many ingredients, including the Holy Water, the Grass of Innocence, the Origin of Evil, and the Glacier Tears. Still, now they maintained a bright-red color as the phoenix had the highest content. It was stable now, but if the Hell Ruby, the king of negative energy, entered, it would fluctuate like crazy. The success of Elixir creation would be determined by how it was suppressed and sublimated to medicinal effect.
Compared to the Hell Ruby’s paintings in ancient books, Evan took out the Hell Ruby about five times that size, placed it at the entrance of the flask, and sprayed the prepared particular melting reagent. It was a dissolved reagent that had no effect on the ingredients and only possessed the ability to liquefy them. The Hell Ruby glowed as soon as it came into contact with the reagent, slowly melting from the surface and dripping down into the flask. It didn’t take long for the huge jewel to be sucked into the flask.

‘…It’s redder.’
Up until this point, Evan followed the recipe he made with Bernard. However, there was also a problem here. The strength of the materials was so potent that the other relatively weak materials lost effect. The harmony was disrupted, so the energy of the Hell Ruby and the energy of the phoenix feathers began to collide. A reagent that boiled and emitted an extraordinary radiance in a flask.
If the flask hadn’t been specially made by a Dwarf, it might have exploded.
‘No, if it stays like this, it won’t be able to stand the flask made by the Dwarves.’
Evan originally intended to control this with his power of Annihilation. With his immense power, he tried to blend in, holding down other spirits. It was more of a wizard’s way than an alchemist’s. However, even if the Elixir can be created, he wouldn’t reach completion as an alchemist. He chose this method because it was an urgent priority to create an Elixir that worked well. Thanks to the World Tree, there was no need to make such a fuss anymore.
‘Please.’
He couldn’t even open his mouth because he was trying not to breathe, but he just put his earnest desire in the petal powder in his hand. Evan poured the world’s benevolence into the flask.
―Shaaaaaaa!
Perhaps because of his mood, Evan felt the wind blowing toward him at that moment. The wind of the forest, standing under the shadow of the World Tree. Even though he shouldn’t breathe in there, he opened his mouth unconsciously and breathed the wind. The flask began to emit bright light.
“…!?”
Evan’s heart sank as he hurriedly shut his mouth. But immediately, he realized it was perfectly natural. What was now happening wasn’t only to train Elixir but also to train himself as an alchemist. His breathing was just a moment of breath that must be done to complete Elixir and to complete himself.
“…”
A violent change was taking place in the flask. The wind of the world that Evan just felt was only the beginning. At the end of the continent, freezing snow on land covered with ice and despair. The purest place on earth, holy water and grass grew in God’s sun. From the moment life was first born on the continent until now, in all the beautiful or ugly struggles that had lasted, the terrible delusions created by those who had fallen without achieving their will.
The origin of the gods who cherished and truly loved humanity among the many gods. The breath of a phoenix that was born in the endless sun and lived forever. A piece of heart disciplined by the creator of all the filth, for the sake of blameless evil, taking off part of himself.
“Ah…”
In an infinitely short moment or an eternity without an exit, all of its senses struck Evan with more weight than human life. He instinctively began to coordinate them all into one. There was only a flask in front of him, but now Evan had become a divine who orchestrated the world beyond the world. His ability wasn’t enough, but whenever the blood and sweat from his forehead tried to cover his eyes, a calm wind blew it down.
It was the motherly love of the World Tree.
―Shaaaaaaaaaa.
Soon, an end came to the softness that no mystery could possibly explain. The flask, which had been glowing as if it would explode at any moment, calmed down, and Evan returned from being an observer beyond the world to a member of the small world. But remembering the height of his vision, he could never return to an ordinary mortal experience. Once he understood all of it, the words that came out of his mouth were short curses.
“Oh, damn it.”
Evan could barely realize that this creation was something he could only achieve in the first place. Without the process of taking the ingredients on their own, the creation couldn’t have succeeded. By taking the materials, he collected the history of the materials together. Mixing the ingredients to collect all the energy they gave off.
Only if it was put together correctly and created, the leap of truth was to be completed.
“Grandpa might have known this.’
Indeed, the Elixir’s creation was such a great thing that he could have left it to Evan without hesitation. Bernard probably knew from the beginning that the Elixir’s creation would be in Evan’s hands by the time he had taken the Holy Water. However, he actively helped Evan create the Elixir by prioritizing the secret of alchemy itself over individual desires.
‘I miss Grandpa.’
Evan suppressed his rising longing and changed himself a little bit…
He held a flask containing the Elixir in his hand. Before the creation began, it emitted a dark-red and eerie light, but now that it was completed, it was shining with infinitely transparent gold color. This liquid would be anything Evan wanted.
It could destroy the world. It could save a dead world. A reagent that bore everything in the world and dared to be called an omnipotent drug. That’s why…
“But this is something humans can’t drink…”
It wasn’t a type of potion that mankind could consume.
