Chapter 16: Chapter 12

The orcs were running desperately from the carriage, as if death itself was inside it.

It was useless, or rather, impossible to escape. The little girl's perfect precision was maintained even at high speed.

The coachwoman drove the carriage like a real getaway driver. Her brown eyes were yellowed and a supernatural concentration took over her face.

As for Kurone...

- Urgh!

He was nauseous.

The speed was gradually increasing, and yet the loli with the black rifle did not lose its accuracy. With each shot, you could hear the scream of an orc being shot down.

At the moment, only Kurone and Rory were inside the carriage. Edgar and Brain went down to the entrance to help the other adventurers.

- There's a horde of orcs ahead - shouted Amelia.

In a drift, the chariot swerved perfectly out of the horde of orcs and into a narrow alleyway - where the wooden edges of the chariot splintered when they came into contact with the brick walls. Rory used the back window to eliminate the pursuing orcs.

- There! - The still sickened Kurone pointed.

Mother and daughter were being chased by three monsters. The child screamed in terror as tears gushed from her mother's eyes - she was trying to run with all her might.

"Bam!"

A shot, a slaughter. The bodies of the monsters staggered and went to the ground, already lifeless.

The carriage skidded, hung over the side, and stopped in front of the panting mother.

- Get in! - shouted the young man, opening the door of the vehicle.

Realizing that mother and daughter were safely inside, Amelia slammed the reins and the horses began to run toward the guild. The building was almost packed. The guild master, accompanied by two guards, were waiting for the carriage in front of the entrance.

The mother came down holding her daughter on her lap, thanked them in a nod and quickly entered the guild.

"Even with Rory's mass murder, the orcs are still coming..."

Kurone went into thoughtful mode as he was jostled back and forth inside the carriage.

After passing through the entire village again, in a matter of minutes, Amelia, the coachman, drove the vehicle back towards the guild - to ensure the safety of the villagers they had already saved.

The decision came at a good time.

A horde of orcs was approaching. They probably smelled the scent of the women in the guild hall.

Amelia stopped between the building and the horde of orcs. The coachwoman switched places with Rory, who opened fire on the horde.

- There are too many of them! - Kurone shouted, seeing that the monsters would approach before the little companion took them all down.

- Do something useful for once. - The little girl threw the rifle into the young man's hands and climbed down from the carriage.

- What do I do with this?

- Cover me. - Rory said, picking up a sword lying on the ground. The weapon belonged to the dead adventurer beside him.

- C-c-correct!

"Bam!"

The Shot of passed very close to hitting the orc.

Kurone shivered as he received the kick of the rifle. He had never touched any weapon before or killed a living thing - with the exception of cockroaches.

- Hold tight! - The coachman shouted, holding the young man's hands.

For extra support, she leaned the barrel of the gun against the edge of the carriage window. Amelia held his trembling hands and helped him shoot. Without even knowing what a rifle was, the coachman did better than Kurone.

A burst of three shots hit one of the orcs squarely.

As the young amateurs slowly eliminated the monsters, Rory took advantage of the cover and advanced on the horde, equipped with nothing but a bloody sword. Despite the distance, the little girl reached her enemies within seconds.

The sound of meat being cut, screaming orcs, gushing blood, and a haughty phrase mingled in the air, and Rory disappeared into the crowd of orcs.

Even though Kurone, Amelia and Rory killed many orcs, the number was only increasing.. When you killed one, two would appear. It was like trying to kill a Hydra. Would they have to burn all the orcs?

Sweat dripped from the young man's forehead, his arms were already numb from holding the rifle, and it would have knocked him down by now, if not for Amelia holding his hands.

"Mana as ammunition."

Kurone remembered what the goddess had spoken. That explained why he was so tired.

"Every shot diminished my MP."

Unlike his little companion, Kurone was an almost inexhaustible source of mana, he could fight all day if he had more physical strength. But even with body strengthening she couldn't hold the heavy rifle for that long without losing concentration.

"Wait... So!"

He remembered how Elsie, the maid at the Soul Za mansion, had become weak after almost exhausting her mana...

- Rory!

"So, she has almost nothing, but in compensation, her new companion has compatibility with all kinds of magic!"

Cecily had already warned him, he just didn't pay attention.

It was just like the time they attacked the village. Rory was lying on the ground, at a distance that the young man could see only a black dot on the ground being surrounded by orcs.

- Rory fell again!

Amelia and Kurone jumped up, intending to help the little girl who was far away, in the midst of the crowd of orcs.

The carriage could no longer move - the wheels were completely destroyed. At some point, one of the orcs threw an axe and damaged the two rear wheels.

Running was the only option they had.

- Leave her alone!

In a fit of rage, the boy put one of his knees on the ground and shot at some orcs, who were approaching his companion.

"Bam!"

The rifle's scope was magnified fivefold. He could perfectly see Rory on the ground, cursing silently, but showing no expression of fear - even though she was incapacitated on the battlefield.

He was about to take his eye off the gun sight, when something caught his attention. A guard, wearing gray armor and helmet like the others, but with yellow trimmings and a different coat of arms.

Little by little, others like the first appeared. One of them picked up Rory, put him on his back, and ran toward the carriage. The others gave cover to the guard rescuing the little girl.

"Bam!"

Kurone also tried to provide cover for the guard until he reached the carriage, even though he didn't have an accuracy like Rory, the young man could take out one orc in three shots - the little companion could take out three orcs in one shot.

- Take it! - The guard safely reached the carriage and handed the little girl over. - Take good care of her! - He nodded and returned to the battlefield.

- Are you all right? - Kurone asked worriedly.

- I don't need your help, you idiot. This is harassment, I'll kill you. - Rory jumped out of Kurone's arms and stood up, reaching for his gun again.

"Looks like she's okay..."

- Don't do irresponsible things like that!

- Quiet. I hate to admit it, but as you realize, we can't fight separately. The sharing of mana between us ends when we get too far apart. - Rory explained as he shot two orcs, who passed the guards.

He realized this too. The moment Rory ran towards the horde of orcs, he felt as if something disconnected from his body. This also happened when they tried to attack the village - Kurone was thrown far away and the little girl fainted from using magic far away from her companion.

As long as they were together, their use of mana was unlimited, but apart, it could mean death for both of them.

Kurone had the mana, but could not use magic. The little girl was compatible with all kinds of magic and possessed stolen status, but did not have the mana.

- When this fight is over, I'll have to buy a collar to keep you close to me.

- I am not a dog! - Kurone protested.

- And-those guards... Don't tell me... - Amelia stared at the guards who had a different crest on their yellow adornments.

- Aren't they from this village? - Kurone asked confused.

- No... This is bad...

- I got confused now... - he sighed, waiting for the explanation for the fear on the coachman's face, but that explanation never came.

Something caught everyone's attention. A shrill sound, like a boom, caused a slight earthquake in the village.

The guards in yellow, who already numbered over fifty, looked with terror at the source of the boom.

"Clac!"

A giant club, coming out of nowhere and at insane speed hit them full on.

- r-r-run! - One of the guards gave the order to retreat to those who survived the brutal attack.

The men ran towards the carriage. That was as far as they could retreat without putting the guild at risk.

- What is that? - Kurone asked one of the approaching guards.

- Get to safety! - The man shouted.

"It," was a monster about ten feet tall. A gray-green orc. Unlike the others - with a pot belly - its abdomen was well defined, it wore a necklace of bones with a human skull in the center and a club of its height filled with nails - and which was now bloody with some pieces of soldiers stuck in the nails.

"Damn! It's the boss of the wave."

"Wave Boss." That was the first thing that came to Kurone's mind to define the approaching monster.

Of the fifty guards, that thing killed thirty in just one attack while half stayed in formation in the chariot, the others protected the guild.

The chariot became the line that demarcated the battlefield. The monster couldn't get past there, but how could only ten guards, a young man with no battle experience, a loli, and a charioteer take that thing down?

Tension took over the battlefield, the monster was getting closer, with each wide step it traveled two meters.

- Amelia, go to the guild! - Kurone ordered the coachman.

- No. My master is the lord who protects these lands, and I as a servant have the same duty! It is part of the contract... - The coachwoman said bravely, although her trembling hand betrayed her speech.

One of the guards yielded a sword to Kurone and another to Amelia, who were unarmed until then. Rory was preparing to fire the first shot, which would announce the beginning of the massacre.

"What kind of event is this?"

In games, the boss, or "wave boos," could only appear when the hero was stronger. This was not the case for Kurone, who arrived in this world three days ago.

"Bam!"

The battle against the boss began with the firing of the M16A2... if that could even be called a battle.
