Chapter 35: Chapter 27.5

The roar produced with each step frightened the birds resting in the treetops. Aprums and strouths ran for their lives.

The noises produced by the monster brought unparalleled pandemonium. Animals, trees and rocks were destroyed by the four-legged creature's scaly legs. The creature, known in the legends as the Black Beast, a Calamity class monster, followed the path leading to Grain village.

The black monstrosity measured more than fifty meters, had wings attached to its front legs and spines along its spine. It was a monster in every way, both in its sheer strength and in its frightening appearance.

The huge beast was driven by the sheer desire to feed. Mana, mana and more mana. The sweet scent of life essence was wafting through the air, but something unusual caught the monstrosity's attention. It was far away, probably in the capital, but still, the beast could feel the flow of mana in that tiny body. It was as if the god of mana himself were among the mortals, gushing out like an inexhaustible fountain.

The beast tried to divert its attention, but it was impossible to ignore that flow of mana. Could a being support such an immense amount in a small body?

In its millions of years, it had never witnessed anything like that, not even among the Dukes of Hell. Was that being really a human? If it was, it would be better to eliminate it, before it caused trouble for the demon king with its strength. Of course, this was not just an excuse to devour that walking source of mana.

The meeting point was nearby: a plain near the Grain village forest. That was also the place where he met the human named Edward and made the contract.

Demon maids, control over orcs and money in exchange for sacrifices every ten years and Edward's soul at the end of his life. It was an equivalent exchange. The creature stopped facing the plain. Soon Edward would bring a wagon with the best possible quality of humans: pure children.

Were all humans like this? Were they all so crazy as to sell their souls in exchange for fulfilling their dark desires, such as abusing little human girls? Wasting years learning the language of the age of the gods and dark magic to make a contract. Really, I would never understand this race. Compared to them, demons were certainly the most rational beings.

"WOOOHHHHHHHHH!"

The roar of the monstrosity echoed through the plain, forest, village and probably the whole kingdom of Andeavor. It was not a simple scream, it was a call. Edward's time to settle the score with the demon had come, but he was late.

He needed to devour the little children and leave soon before his instincts made him run to the capital to devour that walking source of mana. That human was a temptation for a being that needed mana all the time to stay alive.

Where was the human Edward? Didn't he know better than to keep a demon waiting? Would he need to collect personally and take his soul as interest?

"UOOOOHHH!" The Black Beast spewed flames onto the green plain, extinguishing any life present there. It was impatient and that source of mana stimulated it even more. The fire incinerating the entire plain calmed her for a moment, but she would wait no longer for Edward.

If it took another second, it would start a fire in the village and devour all the villagers.
