Chapter 22: 22 – Greater Demon 5: Conclusion

(Not good… if I don't keep the attacks going it'll break free. I'm dead if that happens. I have to push it…) Those were Celes' thoughts as her legs started to feel numb and were slowly losing strength.

(This is turning into a mess now… if I properly just stalled for time like I was supposed to, this wouldn't be happening, the elixirs I got from Orto also ran out just now… maybe I could inject the way to Cess and others into Orto's mind or something with Mind Magic…) Celes thought as her barrage completely stopped.

The demon was in a bad state but is still struggling to break free of the ice it's enveloped in and is succeeding briskly.

"No, keep it going. I can't afford to die here… if I can't escape from here, at least I'll give my last struggle and end it with this last one… along with all my mana and blood left, I'll end this." Celes said to herself as she gathered all mana she could and unleashed all blood she could squeeze out of her body.

Why go so far?

As she was preparing for her last attack, she heard such voice that isn't so different from hers. She paid it no mind and focused harder on creating a huge spike to penetrate the demon entirely.

If you had not given care about them, you wouldn't be in this situation, right?

She ignored those voices again and shaped her blood into a huge 2-meter lance and hardened it with her blood.

Weren't they just strangers? Why go so far for them? Why try to take responsibility for something you didn't do? It was her fault, to begin with, right? If that girl, Amy, wasn't too clingy with the Marquis' son then you wouldn't be in this pinch, right?

Celes realized those but paid no heed. She released the lance she just made at high speed and was kneeling on one leg before she realized it. The lance pierced the heart of the demon and made it struggle. The walls and ice was destroyed too along with the demon.

Unfortunately, the demon still managed to survive that, however, he wasn't in the best state. He could only throw another punch or so. Though that was enough to kill the vampire in front of him. He stood but fell. He crawled on all fours and slowly tried to reach for the vampire kneeling in front of him as if awaiting its death.

Celes saw the demon's struggle and couldn't help but struggle to think of something. She was worried but didn't feel any fear, her worry was stimulated by the thought of dying. She was mentally scared to die but wasn't emotionally. Any living creature instinctively fears death. Celes wasn't feeling anything but was sure she didn't want to die. Amid her severe headache that moment she once again heard the voices.

If you just stick with the plan you wouldn't be in this predicament, right?

The demon crawled close enough and raised its right wings, it then descended to Celes. It was as if time slowed down for Celes, she could only watch as the hard sharp feathers slowly descended onto her.

By the time Celes realized, those voices were "her" own thoughts.

I'm going to die? Why? Because I was shortcoming? Because I lacked? Because I wasn't smart enough? Because I was always doing unnecessary things?

Celes' blood boiled from the thought and struggled for one last time. She tried running to the side but just fell. Her backside was stabbed instead of her head and pierced, destroying the floor too making the demon stuck. Blood splattered everywhere and continued to pour all over to the point that it flooded the small craters the demon made.

Celes felt her heart ache and heat up from nowhere. The blood rushed out of her wounds and to her head and made her lose rationality. It felt as if she was awake but also unconscious.

From that point, she couldn't tell what was happening and couldn't think either.

The demon is currently trying to remove its stuck wing that barely hit its target. However, after doing so, the demon didn't feel anger or disappointment. The demon was rushing to break free, because unlike earlier when it was stuck within the ice, it didn't feel so bothered but was only annoyed unlike now, it was scared for its life. It felt its inner instincts shouting at it that it should get away from the vampire in front of it.

It was unfortunate because it was weakened from all the wounds it attained and from blood loss, too. In the end, it decided to remove its wing by pecking it off in desperation. The strong impact of its peck blew off a part of its shoulder making more blood splatter all over, covering Celes in blood, too.

When that happened, the demon couldn't help but tremble. Its sudden surge of adrenaline allowed it to run away at the human's average running speed because of its injuries. However, it couldn't escape from what it feared. The demon felt a sudden pain in its back and the next thing it knew, rather saw, is its heart outside its chest and a small hand grabbing it tightly.

Just because it had its heart separated from its main body, didn't mean it would die. But, I bet it'll regret being unable to die to that for what's going to happen next.

The demon attempted to break free but that's as far as its adrenaline can bring it, the moment its heart was severed it lost all strength and froze in place. What it feared didn't care bout things though. The demon felt another foreign object pierce its back… repeatedly, mercilessly, and ruthlessly. The demon fell to its knees and fell backward. The object of its fears stood on top of it and bit the demon's chest. The demon felt its body being drained and soon fell cold unconscious.

From there all that called be heard was the sounds of slurps and organs being thrown around. A man came out of the shadows, fright and disgust were written all over his face.
