While Jason was going down using the elevator of the hospital, he decided to focus more on what he could see. The doctor said that some dudes and dudettes checked his body. At the same time, he was unconscious, and they didn't find anything special on him, so perhaps that system should be something common now. Nevertheless, it was the first clue he had for his new life.
Strength: increases your physical strength and your health by five points per level.
Endurance: decreases the damage that you receive from physical attacks and increases your health by five points per level.
Magic: increases your magic power and your mana five points per level.
Spirit: decreases the damage that you receive from magic attacks and increases your mana by five points per level.
Quickness: increases your movement and reaction speed.
Dexterity: improve your ability to do complex tasks.
The parameters were easy to understand, and from everything that Jason knew, his parameters were completely average. It was only natural since he never excelled at anything in his life, but he never sucked at anything either.
"Regardless… The real issue is the quirks and those values inside parentheses," Jason thought. "It seemed that I could use some type of currency to increase my parameters and learn things. The title of the system is also weird… Batman didn't use his money to learn things and become a badass. He used his money to make cool ninja toys."
It was hard to imagine that real money would work with the system, but Jason had to try. The problem was that he didn't have any…
When Jason left the hospital, he finally could see how things changed in six months. Most buildings had fallen, but the rubble had been cleaned, so there were many areas that had too much space. The buildings around were different from what he remembered. Even the municipal hospital of Los Angeles wasn't the same… They used some new materials, and the construction method was different. Jason couldn't explain it properly.
As soon as he stepped out of the hospital, Jason didn't know where to go. It seemed that the system might help him, but he would need money. Finding his old friends and borrowing some was an option, but…
"How low you have fallen, Jason… You aren't dead broke anymore. You drowning in debts, and now you are considering borrowing money," Jason thought while shaking his head. "What will be next?"
Jason left the area in order to familiarize himself with the new city and in the hope of finding someone that would recognize him. However, neither of those happened. He eventually reached the area where the convenience store he worked was supposed to be, but now it was an empty lot.
"I guess I won't be paid any more for working here…" Jason thought and then sighed.
Jason headed to where his apartment was, but he didn't see a single building standing in that area. Eventually, Jason crossed half of the city during the morning and reached the area where his parents' house was supposed to be. However, most of the homes in that area had been destroyed, including theirs. The others had been abandoned.

"It is all right… They are alive," Jason thought while he was thinking of his parents and little sister. "There are countless ways for them to have survived… They probably didn't look for me because they were busy surviving…."
Jason was worried, and he had many things to consider. However, he didn't have time to lower his head and feel bad about himself. He didn't find anyone familiar while walking during the entire morning, so he had to solve things by himself.
"Well, there must be some way around to get a job that doesn't involve selling my purity…" Jason said while looking around.."I will have to start from scratch, so might as well start now."
Jason passed by some busy streets earlier, so he decided to check those first. He eventually found some big ass buildings that looked like futuristic skyscrapers. If he had to guess, those were the bases of those who obtained crazy superpowers. Since they deemed him as worthless, Jason didn't want to get involved with them, so he looked for the smaller buildings that the people were heading towards.
Jason eventually saw some trucks arriving behind a pretty small warehouse. It seemed like a lot of things had arrived, but not many people were working there, so Jason decided to approach. Some people inside frowned when they saw Jason there. Those people looked tired, and they had some scars on their bodies. Some even had a missing limb… Jason knew that his situation wasn't an easy one, but there were people who had it worse. They had to work in such a place even after losing so much…
Regardless, the place smelled like meat. So, Jason assumed it was some sort of place where people skinned animals. He eventually found the animals being skinned there… One of them was a three meters long boar. Jason was pretty sure that those didn't exist around Los Angeles anymore. Still, it was clearly a monster with that size and red tusks.
"Who the hell are you?" An annoyed, bald, and buffy middle-aged man wearing an apron covered in blood asked.
"The name is Jason, and I am looking for a job," Jason replied.
"... You look totally out of place," the middle-aged man said. "After six months of that disaster, this is the first job that you looked for?"
"Yeah, but I had my reasons for that. Do you want to hear it?" Jason asked.
"No, I just want to hear if you have what it takes to work here,'' the middle-aged man replied. "We need some extra hands, but I am not interested in wasting time with lazy bums."
"Well, there is only one way to discover if I am one," Jason said.
"Have you ever skinned a monster?" The middle-aged man asked.
"Is it similar to skinning a deer and taking out its insides?" Jason asked.
"... it is actually pretty similar," the middle-aged man said after frowning.
