Chapter 14: 14

Chapter 14 - The Blind Association

“Welcome, King.”

Receiving word of the King’s arrival, Sitch immediately rushed over to greet him at the door.

“Hello, Mr. Sitch.”

Wang Feng, distracted by Sitch’s round face and big nose, forced himself to remember that he was one of the top brass within the Hero Association. He was in charge of the War Department, which eliminated and fought disasters (both mysterious and natural).

“King, let’s get straight to the point!” Sitch and Wang Feng walked down the hall into a conference room. “Here’s the situation, as King, you have an excellent reputation with the people, and you don’t have the flaws other heroes have. Thus, I’ve given the Board of Directors a proposal. I intend to make you a role model for our association. After two hours of intensive discussion, our association’s senior management decided that….”

“Too long, make it 30 words or less.”

Wang Feng interrupted Sitch’s “speech” impatiently. This happened last time too, and he was just trying to donate money. At the time, Sitch managed to make a bunch of excuses and random bullshit to try and stop him, wasting his time and pissing him off.

Sitch was surprised before briefly concluding, “We want you to become our model hero and intend to get you to shoot a public service advertisement and participate in hero promotion activities.”

Wang Feng thought for a moment and nodded. Within the Hero Association, many professional heroes participated in the association’s publicity projects. For example, the hero Hegang ranked second amongst the A-Class heroes, often seen on TV performing unique tricks.

Cooperating with the Hero Association once netted him nearly 100,000 yuan, plus he had nothing to do at home, so it would also stave off his boredom.

“Alright, we will arrange a schedule for you as soon as possible. Don’t worry; it’ll be shortened as much as possible and won’t take up too much time.” Sitch smiled with satisfaction.

Wang Feng, “…”

‘Filming advertisements have always taken a while. Wait, are they trying to reduce my screen time?’

“King!?”

As the two spoke, a muscular man walked towards them. He had a long face and bulging muscles. Wearing a gray vest, he firmly held a dumbbell labeled 500kg in each hand and lifted them up and down. 500kg was very heavy to an ordinary person, but the man in front of him lifted them with ease as though he were holding two lollipops.

“Tanktop Master!?”

Wang Feng narrowed his eyes. He could recognize every S-Class hero within the Hero Association. The Rank 13 S-Class hero, Tanktop Master, had become stronger purely by training his muscles.

In a way, Tanktop Master was a bit like Saitama. he depended on unceasing practice to become stronger. More importantly, Tanktop Master had a habit of blowing away monsters with a single blow and generally won his fights.

Of course, Tanktop Master was much weaker than Saitama. He also lost to King in terms of fame as a hero, but he was still quite well known. The title “His Majesty” was not given by the association lightly.

Moreover, he was based in the headquarters of the Hero Association like Tatsumaki, and there was a floor within the headquarters dedicated to him as training grounds, showing the importance the association placed on him.

At the same time, Majesty Tanktop Master has a group of subordinates, such as Tanktop Vegetarian, Tanktop Tiger, etc., forming one of the few hero groups in the Association, the Tank Topper Army!

Tanktop Master clearly held a high position within the Association and had a certain right to speak.

Tanktop Master looked at Wang Feng, his aura strengthening significantly, and he said solemnly, “King, let’s have a manly fight!”

“What?” Wang Feng was dumbfounded. He didn’t understand Tanktop Master’s sudden words and wanted to clarify.

Tanktop Master continued solemnly, “Let’s shake hands!”

“What?”

Wang Feng was speechless.

‘That’s what you were talking about? Shaking hands can be considered a manly fight? That’s too childish!’

Sitch stepped forward to mediate, “Majesty Tanktop Master, King, has just come from M-City, he’s very tired physically and mentally, and our Association has important matters that need him, it is not convenient for him to fight with you right now.”

“Impossible.” Majesty Tanktop Master narrowed his eyes, “I have been exercising for more than 30 years, and I can tell whether or not someone is exhausted with a glance.”

“…”

After grabbing a Four-Stars Card, the system restored him to his best state, so it was no surprise that he couldn’t tell that he was tired.

“uhuk uhuk.” Sitch coughed lightly and whispered in Tanktop Master’s ear, “King just dealt with a Demon-level monster that was about to be promoted to Dragon-level on the way over…”

“What?”

Tanktop Master was shocked. He hadn’t expected King to have defeated a Demon-level monster without being affected. What kind of freak was he? Even if King had the confidence to eliminate a Demon-level monster, it was definitely not easy for him. What’s more, King destroyed a Demon-level monster that was about to be promoted to Dragon-level. If Tanktop Master were the one there, he would have been injured by the time he finished the battle.

Thinking of this, his heart trembled, and his palm shook. The dumbbells fell out of his and slammed into his feet. He frowned and ignored the dumbbells. To people like him, who became strong by exercising their muscles, being hit by dumbbells was not worth mentioning.

He looked at Wang Feng with a serious expression: “King, you are very strong, but I will not admit defeat. Sooner or later, I will defeat you.”

Wang Feng smiled helplessly. Sitch and Tanktop Master’s voices were hushed, so he didn’t hear them. Otherwise, he would have been amazed by the association’s reward for eliminating the Vaccine Man.

Sitch brought Wang Feng into the meeting room. After the two of them disappeared, the Tanktop Master glanced around. Seeing no one, his serious expression immediately became pained, bent down to remove the dumbbells from his feet. “Ouch, that hurts. Ouch!!”

“Huh? I’m ranked 14th?”

In the meeting room, apart from Sitch, was Coleson, the one in charge of hero information management, Maria, in charge of Mysterious Being management, and several others. Once Wang Feng sat down, Sitch immediately announced the news, Wang Feng’s hero rank was to be raised from 16 to 14, two consecutive advancements.

Sitch smiled, “After discussing with our association, we’ve determined that you have been very active in eliminating monsters recently. At the same time, you have been active in doing good deeds. With your accumulated hero activity points, we’ve raised you to 14th within the S-Class heroes…”

He felt deeply moved as he looked at King. In just half a month, he eliminated four or five wolf-level monsters, tiger-levels, and even a Demon-level that was about to be promoted to Dragon-level. More importantly, aside from fighting monsters, he also actively contributed money towards good deeds. King truly was a role model for heroes!

“Eliminating monsters? Good person, good deeds?”

Wang Feng looked dumbfounded.

‘Are you sure? I don’t remember any of this. I did meet a lot of monsters recently, but Saitama killed the Minotaur. Saitama blew up the father and son Vaccine Man duo, and the other was killed when Tatsumaki threw a rock. Despite all the Mysterious Beings I’ve met, none of them were killed by me. I’m a good person, and I usually don’t kill.

If I insist on finding something I destroyed, there is something, and it’s the road, but you mistakenly thought that I was eliminating a monster. What “good person” and “good deeds” are you talking about? I only remember destroying a road for no reason and donating 1.3 million yuan in compensation afterward. Is that a good deed?

Is the Hero Association also known as the Association of the Blind?

Well, the Association wasn’t far off from that nickname. Consider that Saitama had been involved in heroic activities for three years and killed many monsters, yet the Hero Association didn’t notice any of it.

Why has Saitama’s slaying of monsters over the last three years not been discovered? Just have a look at King. King became an S-Class hero just by coincidentally appearing near a powerful monster who Saitama slew. Just today, he was thought to have slain a monster above Demon-level, winning him the respect of the Heroes Association’s S-Classes.

Of course, Saitama killed many monsters, and King only took a small part of the credit. After all, even if King was lucky, he couldn’t get everything. If that were the case, then King would have become first or second-ranked within the S tier. So the question was, where did the other monsters Saitama killed go?

They didn’t just disappear. If you’ve watched “One Punch Man”, you would notice an interesting trend. Namely, the combat effectiveness of some high-ranked heroes in actual battles was clearly not equivalent to their hero ranking. This gave the impression of rampant corruption.

The truth is, many heroes have shared Saitama’s achievements over the last three years. When Saitama killed a monster, he would dust himself off and leave. The corpses were not dealt with, and there were no citizens around. Then, the two rank C-Class heroes, Monocross and Grave Eight, took the credit. After reporting their achievements, the two even explained how they killed the monster and claimed credit.

From Monocross and Grave Eight’s example, it could be why Saitama, despite killing countless monsters over the last three years, had not been discovered while King, who had taken his credit, became famous and an S-rank hero, and the title “King.”

The Hero Association was clearly flawed. The so-called heroes of justice included a lot of ruffians, and, naturally, the King was one of them (haha).

Others did not hate King because he never took the initiative to claim Saitama’s credit. It was always others misunderstanding him that led to him being the strongest person. Once he became an S-Class rank hero, he was unable to leave the Heroes Association. In order to get out of this vortex, every time he participated in the hero rally, he acted afraid and cautious.

Chaotic thoughts ran through Wang Feng’s mind. He looked at the other senior leaders of the association at the conference table, raised his hand, “I have something to say. I haven’t actually killed any of the monsters you’ve mentioned. I am a good person. I usually don’t kill anything. “

Sitch and all the senior leaders of the association looked at Wang Feng in confusion. Coleson, who was in charge of managing hero information, picked up a pen and added another comment on King’s evaluation sheet, “Humble, and not pushy!”
