Chapter 2: C1 Where in the world?

Slowly my consciousness began to fade in, and a dull throbbing sensation started to make itself known after a few moments that roused me past being half asleep.

The next thing I felt was the dry, cool breeze against my skin accompanied by the feeling of something lightly brushing against my face. The atmosphere felt as if I were in a forest.

I could smell the scent of pine, yet the sound of flowing water was also there.

The sound of a flowing river and trees being shifted and pushed by the wind accompanied by the occasional bird call and what sounded like some sort of deer had been the only sounds to make it to my ear’s before my own whimpering and groaning as I started to shift on the ground restlessly.

My body catching up with my mind as I willed myself to yawn and sat up from where I lay.

“Mmmm-mmmnnn-“ After a few moments of willing myself up, I snapped my eyes open.

When my eyes had fully adjusted, I found them darting every which way at my surroundings.

My breathing was panicked temporarily; the sight I took in was that of a rounded clearing. A campground of some sort with a path at one end and a sizeable river with a dock at the other.

“Wh-what?”

I was shocked at my current change of environment. I was just in my truck, starting it, and then I blacked out. I was in a city, it was the season for tropical storms, and it was stormy around this time, but this place is obviously well detached from society and way too dry. It felt like the humidity was almost not there, from how cool the air was flowing across my face and the sweat that had been collecting on my brow and bangs.

Bangs?!

My hair’s length confused me for a moment, it shouldn’t have been more than a few inches, but I found it was nearly five at the shortest point. Grabbing a strand and pulling it out with my hand, I found it was not my natural color. It was a strange reddish-purple color. Clearly unnatural, but it appeared as if it had always been so.

Staring at the held strand, I directed my attention to my hand. It was small and lithe. As if it was separate from what they should have been. Clean and unblemished except for some dirt and what appeared to be blood. Taking a moment, I looked over myself. I grasped for some logical reason to be looking like this, but I was lost. I found myself unable even to hold back a sudden noise of shock when I actually looked down at myself.

“Eeeh?!”

A sudden feeling of shock shot down my spine, signaling every nerve in my body coming to life, with a heavy feeling of nausea temporarily overcoming me, as my stomach felt upturned. My voice had no hint of my previous self in it. I was currently in the body of nothing more than some child from how I sounded. Looking over my clothes, that seemed to be an accurate assessment for the time being.

Looking over myself, I saw what must have been the body of a child, some fanciful casual clothing covered in dust and dried blood. I didn’t feel hurt, so it must not have been my own, but I couldn’t be sure. Patting myself down quickly, I was relieved I felt no wounds. The blouse, dress, nor thin pants I was wearing seemed to have any holes or tears that didn’t look like they were simply caught on some foliage.

I sighed in relief for a second before looking down at myself again with a sudden question in my mind. I didn’t feel discomfort…down there… a severe lack of any discomfort or tightness from the pant I felt myself wearing.

I quietly raised the hem of my dress's skirt, looking past it between my legs before dropping it and laying back down, my gaze glued to the sky directly above as I now lay spread eagle.

“I’ve been emasculated.”

I could feel my face getting hot as tears barely formed—the old feeling of shock heading down my spine once more.

After around fifteen minutes or so of me lying there whimpering to myself, I was able to sit back up and stretch lightly.

“Hmmn! Hmmph! Haaah.”

After stretching here and there where I sat, I let out a sigh of relief from the loosened tension I felt on my back and core. I felt like I was exhausted from all manner of exercise, but the sensation was nothing new. Now that I had at least partially absorbed the surprises that reared their heads, I managed to stand up, the feeling of lightness compared to before throwing me off as I rose.

“Wait, what?” Just before I fell back over, I felt my body shift, and I had suddenly righted myself. I felt as if a part of me was swaying, though.

Looking behind myself, I was surprised to see a lithe tail ending in what looked like an arrowhead-shaped tip.

“What the hell?”

God, this voice is going to be foreign to me for a while.

Seeing the tail was an extreme shock, but it was just barely more of a surprise than the sudden loss of... assets.

After playing with it for a moment, I shuffled over to the shore of the river. The dock seemed sturdy enough, so I walked onto it a few feet out onto the water.

The sound of boots on a creaking wood structure added to the sound of nature.

When I was sufficiently far enough out, I slowly dropped to my knees and looked over the edge at my reflection. The water itself was merely a few inches from the surface of the dock, so I was able to get a clear view, and I could reach for a drink if I wanted.

“Ah, I should wash up...”

When I saw my reflection, I was shocked to see that even my face was partially caked in dirt and blood. I still didn’t feel any pain, so I figured it was still wasn’t my own.

Reaching my hands into the water, I splashed my arms and wiped them before bringing my face closer to the surface and bringing some up to it. Scrubbing carefully to clean it off.

When I was done, I brought myself back up only to pause at my own reflection.

“Oooh? Cute.”

I stared at my face for a moment. I didn’t look like some brat, surprisingly. I appeared well-kempt after. My hair was smooth, if not seemingly layered on purpose as well.

“Oh?!”

My thoughts on my complexion were brought to a halt for the time as I spotted some strange black ornamentation on the sides of my head. Turning my head, my hair shifted slightly to reveal that the ornaments on either side were horns, adorning my head like some small crown. Looking at my ears, they were pointed.

So am I not human anymore? What the hell is going on?

Huh, I guessed I wasn't human anymore, but this takes the cake. Taking a moment to inspect myself and making various faces at myself, I took a breath, tying back my hair so I could keep it all generally from falling into my face except for my bangs.

Standing up slowly, then stretching with another yawn. I found myself staring back at the clearing I had just awoken in from the dock.

“Now… where in the world am I?”
