Chapter 13: Handwriting

“Ino-chan !” Yoshino exclaimed, as she walked past Ino’s desk. Ino froze, looking at what she had just written and trying to figure out how much trouble she was in. “Your writing is so beautiful! Have you been practicing?” The entire class stopped to look at Ino, and some were craning their necks to see her work.

“It’s not that great.” Ino mumbled, slowly turning pink as the class focused more and more on her.

Yoshino, still in awe of Ino’s work was unaware of her embarrassment and continued on. “Your kanji are neater than my husbands! Not that that’s saying much… Can you read all of these as well? Or do you just copy them?” She turned to look at Ino and finally noticed that the girl appeared to be trying to sink into the floor. “Oh, I’m sorry honey. Class!” She barked. “Focus on your own work!” She kneeled down next to Ino. “Sorry for embarrassing you Ino-chan. I was just very impressed and surprised with your writing level. It is as good as someone 4 years older than you! How did you learn all of this?”

“I do calligraphy with my mommy sometimes.” Ino mumbled. “And I wanted to keep a diary, so I started learning some. Me and Sakura practice together sometimes.”

“Well.” Yoshino said warmly. “I’m very proud of you for studying extra, and I’ll be sure to let your parents know what a smart and driven little girl they have.” She stood up to continue checking people’s work before she made the poor girl pass out. “Sakura-chan! Very good as well! Kiba! What did I say about writing on other kid’s faces!”
