Chapter 38: Existential Crisis

Ino’s mind was stuck in a loop of disbelief.

The dreams. They’re real. Evil-Sasuke. Naruto. Does that mean?

The dreams! The damn dreams! They’re real. Sasuke! This must be what happened! What else happens…

The dreams! All real?! Or just some…?

It was simply too much to process sitting in the room with their parents. Ino’s mind was trying to put back pieces of reality, but now the pieces from the not-real puzzle had to fit too and there wasn’t enough room for them all and so it was just a pile of confusion.

Is there any possibility it’s just a coincidence? No. There is no. Fucking. Way.

Ino winced as she used one of the “really bad” words in her mind but felt like this was as appropriate a time as any.

The dreams are real. Which means… which means… Too many things is what it meant. It meant they needed to get out of this conversation and into Ino’s room to look through every recorded dream they had. By the look on Sakura’s face she was coming to a similar conclusion.

Ino tried to think back to the last thing that had been said. Something about Sasuke. That’s lucky. They’ll think we are just being stupid love-sick children and not look deeper at our completely stunned reaction.

“Thank goodness,” Ino sighed, “Sakura really likes him.” Before letting her eyes grow wide and covering her mouth, as if she couldn’t believe she’d just said that out loud.

“What?!” Sakura was outraged. “No I don’t!”

It had the desired effect of instantly transitioning the conversation in a direction that would quickly peter out. But as the girls were dismissed Ino noticed that her father was staring at her with an emotionless, slightly squinting look. It was the look he used when he was interrogating people.

Fuck.
