Chapter 188: Battling Beasts From Grassy Continent

Meanwhile, Lin Jin’s side had more than enough strength to spare. Although there were more people on the enemy’s side, their combat power couldn’t compete with Lin Jin’s side. A single Rank 4 monster, Shang’er, could wipe them out.

However, Lin Jin didn’t want to turn this into an irreparable situation.

Lin Jin was still a pacifist at heart. If no terrible grudges were involved, there was no need to take any more lives.

He was still trying to come up with an escape plan.

There was no way he could reason with the Grassy Continent natives since it was Shang’er who killed their people. But Lin Jin wouldn’t blame Shang’er either as the natives were the ones who captured and tortured Little Five first. They were to blame for starting this bloodshed.

Thankfully, upon realizing how strong their enemy was, the natives were reluctant to act rashly as well.

The great plains wolves were one of their most frequently mobilized creatures. Due to the wolves’ ferocious and combative nature, they never backed down even when faced with strong enemies. These creatures would fight to the death and never would they retreat from the battlefield.

But today, not a single one of these wolves dared to charge up this mountain.

It was as if the area ahead was forbidden territory.

“I refuse to believe this!” A mighty native warrior emerged from the group and came forward. Taking out a battle drum, he beat the instrument once.

Bam!

A large beast leaped forward.

It was a Grassy Continent lion.

Twice the size of a great plains wolf, the lion charged ahead under the command of the battle drum.

However, what happened next made the natives’ jaws drop. Despite managing to charge several feet further ahead of the wolves, it crouched down meekly about twenty feet away from the mysterious man.

No matter how hard the native warrior beat his drum or shouted at the top of his lungs, the lion wouldn’t budge.

This baffled all of them.

The Grassy Continent natives were no fools. They clearly knew that the masked man was no easy target.

Just then, another native rushed forward. He took out a horn and blew into it forcefully.

Boom!

The sound reverberated through the air.

Two burly raging bulls charged forward.

These raging bulls’ horns were sharp and thick. They had so much strength that the air they exhaled could tumble a large tree. These bulls charged up the hill at breakneck speed.

Lin Jin frowned.

He couldn’t use his deterrence ability on these raging bulls anymore. His only option was to let Goldy and the shadow wolf handle them.

Thus the battle started.

Light on his feet, the shadow wolf practically drifted over like a phantom and halted one of the bulls, engaging it in battle.

Goldy made haste as well, flapping his wings and gliding over, it charged straight at the other bull. Seconds later, one of the bull’s eyes was blinded as a result of his relentless pecking. Goldy was a ruthless bird. It would never back down from his position as number one.

The bird rarely took action, but if he did, blood would definitely be shed. Lin Jin knew this well so he rarely allowed Goldy to participate in any sort of fight. But today was different. This was an emergency and they could not afford to back down.

Still, the shadow wolf wasn’t as decisive as Goldy when it came to attacking the enemy’s weakness.

The shadow wolf swiped his claws at his opponent. However, there was a layer of armor that seems to be made from a combination of mud and stone on the bull’s body that a common rooster couldn’t possibly claw through.

Even with the shadow wolf’s sharp claws, he couldn’t tear down his enemy’s defense at once.

In contrast, the raging bull’s strength obviously exceeded the shadow wolf’s.

One couldn’t possibly stop a charging bull.

Apart from that, flames were mingled in the breath these bulls huffed out from their noses. Just like legendary dragon breaths, trees would fall, stones would shatter and the environment would be set ablaze wherever these creatures passed.

But this wasn’t the end for the shadow wolf. His specialty was wandering in the darkness, performing sneak attacks and assassinations. A direct confrontation wasn’t his forte.

Subduing the lion and great plains wolves with one hand, Lin Jin freed his other hand to invoke a ‘Wind Blast’ spell, casting it on the shadow wolf as an enhancement.

Lin Jin’s Wind Blast spell was only average, but every bit of strength mattered right now. At least it could help the shadow wolf a little.

Other than this, there was little Lin Jin could do to help the shadow wolf and Goldy. Basically, he could only rely on their strengths to battle the raging bulls.

The worst-case scenario had yet to arrive.

The Grassy Continent natives took action again.

At least five goshawks swooped down from the sky above to join the fray.

Two were headed for Lin Jin while the remaining three aimed for Goldy and the shadow wolf.

It became clear that this was their strategy, dividing their forces to attack. Lin Jin couldn’t afford to conceal his strength now. Utilizing his coiled wire needle, he swiftly pierced the two goshawks right through their hearts.

As his movements were too obscure, no one saw what happened. They only saw two goshawks diving down in an aggressive manner, then, as if they were being struck by lightning, without losing speed, both creatures simply crashed to their deaths against the rocks around the area.

Both goshawks were turned into bloody pulps.

This startled the Grassy Continent natives.

The man with the tree bark mask was too horrifying. Up till now, he had easily deterred ferocious beasts. As if that wasn’t terrifying enough, through the use of some mysterious power, he managed to eliminate the two attacking eagles.

Compared to that, the other three goshawks who targeted Goldy and the shadow wolf were much luckier.

Due to the distance, Lin Jin couldn’t use his coiled wire needle on the other three eagles, so the latter was now engaged in battle with Lin Jin’s companions.

The current face-off saw the shadow wolf fighting against one raging bull and one goshawk; this was a losing battle. Meanwhile, Goldy took on two goshawks and one raging bull, completely overpowering them. The bird’s ferocity was equivalent to the rage of a thousand chickens.

Even Lin Jin didn’t expect Goldy to fare this well in battle.

Embers were lit on Goldy’s crest and to everyone’s surprise, he opened his beak and spat out a jet of fire, roasting one of the goshawks alive while burning part of the forest in the process.

Then, he flapped his wings and rose up through the air to engage the other goshawk.

Goldy’s combat skill was impressive, too impressive.

This guy could tell that the goshawks were tougher opponents so he chose to deal with them first. It didn’t need to bother with the bull whose eyes were pecked out at the start of the battle.

The bull couldn’t fly so if Goldy was up in the air, there was practically nothing it could do.

The natives noticed how big a threat this giant rooster was now.

“Mobilize your pet beasts, surround and kill that giant chicken!” one of the natives shouted.

His pet beast had just died under Goldy’s flames earlier so his heart was aching. He wanted to tear Goldy apart right now.

Another goshawk swooped in aggressively for the kill. In addition, two large lizards crawled forwards to join the battle.

With the coiled wire needle, Lin Jin pierced the heart of the Grassy Continent lion, and to make sure that it was dead for good, the needle was redirected to the creature’s brain through its veins, causing the lion to slump over dead on the spot.

There was no time for benevolence. The natives were going all out so Lin Jin had to stop holding back. His options had run out and to kill was the only thing he could do now.

But Lin Jin knew that it was hard to let this end nicely.

The shadow wolf wasn’t adept in upfront battles so it could only try to stay alive for now. Lin Jin’s strongest combat force right now was Goldy but he was battling against four beasts on his own at the moment. There was a Rank 3 beast among his opponents but that did little to faze the bird. Instead, he just kept getting fiercer.

Cluck cluck!

Flapping his wings, Goldy grabbed one of the goshawks’s head with its claw and clamped down hard, crushing the goshawk’s skull. Blood rained down on the battlefield.

The moment he landed on the ground, Goldy was pounced on by a lizard. But he flipped his opponent over in the blink of an eye and began pecking savagely at it.

The body of the pitiful lizard was instantly covered in cavities with blood gushing out non-stop from these openings.

It was a brutal sight indeed.

Even Lin Jin felt his scalp prickle as he watched the battle unfold. And the rooster was just Rank 3. If Goldy evolved again, the guy might just peck a hole in the sky.

More importantly, Goldy hadn’t learned any Beast Energy Formation. He was merely relying on his own constitution and innate brutality.

Lin Jin’s impression of Goldy as a fighter changed instantly.

Despite being on the same rank, Xiao Huo couldn’t possibly compete with Goldy’s monstrosity.

As time passed, casualties were piling up for the natives. That pitiful raging bull couldn’t withstand Goldy’s pecks anymore and died a horrible death.

The hilltop was covered in fresh red blood.

“Call the rest of the beasts back.” The natives couldn’t take it anymore. If this continued on, none of their pet beasts would survive.

Today, Goldy’s fame soared in just one battle.

“What beast is that? Why on earth is it so powerful?”

“It looks like a giant rooster, but our Grassy Continent doesn’t have a creature like that.”

“We have to stop sending our pet beasts! At this point, they’d just be fodder for that dreadful rooster! And that masked man is creeping me out! None of our beasts could get close to him at all. We must retreat and change our plan.”

The natives were overwhelmed by the chaos.

“Everyone, stay calm. Let’s just surround them. We can’t let them escape. That woman killed State Preceptor’s biological son, we can’t just let this go. I heard State Preceptor is already rushing over. Once he’s here, no one can shield that woman,” the leader of the natives said at the foot of the hill.

Though that was what he said, his eyes were also filled with fear as he glanced up at the mysterious man and his large rooster.

The way he stared at them was like how one would look at a ghost.

Being a keen observer, the leader knew this mysterious man was a formidable man. He could control two beasts in battle on his own. By just extending one arm, the man managed to subdue all of the beasts they deployed. They had never seen anything like this before.

Even the famous beast appraisers of various countries back in their Grassy Continent couldn’t achieve such a feat.

Who was this mystery guy with a tree bark on his face?

Lin Jin breathed a sigh of relief.

The senseless killing was finally over.

In conclusion, he found the intermediate beast deterrence ability to be very useful. Any beast that was Rank 4 and below couldn’t resist it. And Goldy’s performance earlier was an eye-opener. He was way too merciless for a mere chicken. Lin Jin speculated that even if a Rank 4 beast showed up, Goldy could probably beat that creature into a pulp.

But of course, no matter how strong Goldy was, the bird would exhaust his energy sooner or later. Just like how Lin Jin’s deterrence ability also had a weakness. He couldn’t subdue too many creatures at once. The great plains wolves had been Rank 2 so they were relatively easy to deal with. If they sent several Rank 3 beasts instead, Lin Jin might have had a hard time doing the same thing.

Now, the natives dared not approach them and Lin Jin didn’t leave. Both sides reached a stalemate.

A little while after, Lin Jin seemed to have notice authorities heading this way.

This was normal. The natives had made such a huge fuss within the Jade Dragon Kingdom’s borders that the authorities couldn’t just let this be.

However, situated on top of the hill, Lin Jin couldn’t hear what the authorities were saying. It didn’t take long before he realized what was happening. Instead of leaving, the authorities decided to lay siege at the foot of the mountain.

The situation was getting increasingly concerning.
