Chapter 307: Assistance

The three never slowed down even as they spoke. Once they were five miles away from the city, the two subordinates invoked a spell and the aura of a beast was finally unleashed from their beings, materializing into a huge elephant. They then hopped onto the elephant’s back which allowed them to travel twice as fast as running on foot.

After another ten miles, there seemed to be fighting in a forest up ahead, causing quite a commotion.

“King Yan, the monster slave seems to be in trouble,” said one of the guards.

The elephant moved quickly. Unbeknownst to them, Lin Jin had been sitting on the creature’s back this entire time. With something so convenient, there was no reason to waste his spirit energy on clouds.

With a little Carrier Cloud and Camouflage activated, as long as he avoided making sudden movements, the other party would never realize his presence.

Similarly, Lin Jin had also noticed the situation up ahead. Zuo Wentang was currently engaged in a battle with the monster.

Both girls were alright. The one named Tilly was even assisting Zuo Wentang in fighting the monster.

The western beauty was quite capable herself. She had a Rank 3 pet beast and seemed to have cultivated the Beastmaster Scroll before, meaning she was a capable combatant herself.

It was also because of her assistance that Zuo Wentang managed to stay undefeated.

This was mainly because their opponent, the monster, was too strong to take down alone.

It was a Rank 3 monster who had mastered the art of Transfiguration. But to Lin Jin, the creature was only average, seeing how he couldn’t maintain his form during the fight. The monster had now reverted to his original form.

A long-tailed leopard. It was a leopard monster.

A Grassy Continent piebald leopard.

Although the leopard monster failed to maintain his human form, he didn’t completely revert back to its bestial form either. He was now half-human, half-beast. Standing at ten feet tall, he primarily relied on his razor-sharp claws and steel whip-like tail to attack his opponent.

Zuo Wentang was going all out. He had obviously cultivated the Beastmaster Scroll as well, seeing as a shadow of a raging bear hovered behind him. With this, Zuo Wentang’s strength was significantly amplified.

Lin Jin already knew that Zuo Wentang had a Rank 3 pet beast and his blood contract level was already at the fifth realm. In other words, even in Maple City, he was no small fry.

However, things were different if his opponent was a Grassy Continent monster.

The people of this world knew that monsters were difficult, if not impossible to tame so they have been widely recognized as threats to security. This was such that there was even a law that expressly stated that monsters were to be eliminated on sight to prevent future troubles. Working in tandem with this law is the massive penalty that associations would face should they be found to be keeping monsters.

However, laws were just laws, enacted by humans who were by no means perfect. There would always be some loophole to exploit.

Lin Jin himself was an example. Both Bai Zhenkong and Zuo Wentang probably knew about it. The Emperor certainly knows about it now.

However, due to fear and the desire to curry favor with Lin Jin, they chose to turn a blind eye to this.

Initially, Lin Jin held the assumption that monsters only originated from the United Continent, but he was surprised to learn that they existed on the Grassy Continent too, and some were even enslaved by their royalty.

Those people must have certain methods to control monsters.

And Lin Jin was very interested to know what their secret was.

As Zuo Wentang and the western beauty, Tilly, worked together to fend off the leopard, they were at most on par with the monster. Monsters were stronger than a regular beast of the same rank after all.

The other girl, Qu Wenji, was only a normal woman. She could only hide in the distance, staring worriedly at Zuo Wentang.

Right, these two were definitely a thing.

Still, it surprised Lin Jin that Zuo Wentang would put so much on the line for another woman.

The man was currently fighting with his life.

After all, a monster opponent was no joke. If Tilly turned out to not be a fighter, he might have already been defeated after taking on the monster alone.

After a joint attack between Zuo Wentang and Tilly, the fight ground to a stalemate. Suddenly, they noticed an elephant charging their way, and upon taking a closer look, their expressions turned grim.

“Oh no.”

As an expert, Zuo Wentang knew full well that at best, they could only hold out against the leopard monster. A victory was impossible. And if reinforcements were to arrive to back the monster up, their side would undoubtedly lose.

Zuo Wentang came up with a decision quickly and shouted at the western beauty, “Miss Tilly, please take Wenji back to Maple City and report this to City Lord Bai. I’ll buy you some time here.”

While that was what he said, Zuo Wentang knew that with his skills, he couldn’t handle the leopard alone. With the arrival of enemy reinforcements came, there was no way he could escape this battle alive, let alone secure a decisive victory.

The more time he bought them, the slimmer the chances of his survival.

Still, Zuo Wentang didn’t have time to think that much.

He could only do his best.

Tilly wasted no time hesitating. Her managing to escape all the way here from the western region of the Grassy Continent proved that she wasn’t an indecisive character. Almost immediately, she leaped back and pulled Wenji away.

However, Wenji wouldn’t leave.

“Tilly, you can leave if you want, but I won’t go.”

Now that Wenji wasn’t leaving, Tilly couldn’t well escape on her own.

Furthermore, she knew that these people were only here to capture her. It wouldn’t be appropriate for her to just run.

People from the western region of the Grassy Continent were loyal folks.

“Oh no, looks like we have a busy body on our hands. My two wives are about to escape! Seize them! Don’t let even one of them get away!” King Yan’s voice boomed as soon as he realized what was happening.

Both his guards looked helpless. However, it seemed like the leopard monster was able to successfully exchange blows with the other man. Despite their injuries, it seemed as if the guards would be able to overwhelm the enemy fairly easily.

Thus, they got ready to charge ahead.

All of a sudden, a voice called from behind, “You guys can stay put and get some rest.”

Both guards felt their hearts shatter to pieces when they heard the voice. Before they could even react, they felt a sting on their backs, the sensation felt similar to a needle’s prick. And then, they were paralyzed and frightened. Their cultivation of the Beastmaster Scroll enabled them to merge with their pet beasts, which morphed into the war elephant they were currently riding on.

A Grassy Continent war elephant was too powerful that a single human would never be able to merge with one. It was probably after they cultivated the Beastmaster Third Scroll, were they able to divide the creature’s soul into two, allowing them to merge successfully with the war elephant.

Now, as they tried to retrieve their pet beast, they found themselves unable to do so.

Both of them were stunned and unable to move.

It was obviously Lin Jin who attacked them. When he spoke earlier, even King Yan was startled. He got up abruptly, and at the same time, the silhouette of a king cobra rose from his body. Then, he craned his neck to look behind him.

What he saw was another person riding on the back of their war elephant.

‘When did this guy appear?’

Being a vicious man, King Yan was used to being brutal. As if his hand was a snake, he swiped out an arm and the king cobra’s silhouette behind him darted forward to take a bite out of his uninvited guest.

He was using his pet beast’s power.

If he managed to hit his target, even Lin Jin wouldn’t be able to endure the attack. There was also a poisonous aura in his attack and Lin Jin’s body wasn’t poison resistant.

Hence, right before King Yan attacked, Lin Jin had already flicked out a needle that stealthily pierced into the neck of his unsuspecting enemy, numbing his veins. So immediately after King Yan’s attack, the man simply froze up like a corpse, slipping down from the elephant and falling into the jungle foliage below.

Speaking of which, those who didn’t know how Lin Jin’s attacks worked would surely be defeated when the silver needles pierced into their acupoints.

Fortunately, Lin Jin wasn’t out for blood, otherwise, those needles wouldn’t have pierced into acupoints but into their brains instead. However, Lin Jin also knew that after cultivating the Beastmaster Scroll, the host’s brain would be protected by their merged pet beast so even if he wanted to, the needle wouldn’t be able to pierce into the target’s brain easily like a hot knife through butter.

Lin Jin wasn’t here for trouble. His strategy was to scare the enemy into submission because there would be no end to all this fighting.

Falling off from a gigantic elephant’s back would cause pretty serious injuries, but that was beyond Lin Jin’s control.
