Chapter 689: Giving You A Job

Silver needles flew back into Lin Jin’s sleeve. The battle was up to Dopey Bear now. Thankfully, Lin Jin had bought enough time to guide Dopey Bear on handling the chaotic power.

Strong winds began to pick up around Dopey Bear. They were blasts that could easily uproot large trees and rip them apart in the air.

Dopey Bear’s roar shook the earth.

Its voice was an amalgamation of agitation, fear, and pain, a result of its inner battle with the chaotic power. From time to time, Lin Jin would help Dopey Bear correct its error and stop it from being devoured by the chaotic power.

An hour later, the harrowing blasts finally stopped.

Dopey Bear retained its massive size, but it had control over the chaotic power now.

“Success!”

Lin Jin looked exhausted. That past hour had been incredibly risky for him and he was forced to give his all. Fortunately, the outcome was a pleasant one.

Dopey Bear safely overcame the crisis, and it was now able to manipulate that scary chaotic power. Now that it was Rank 7 and on par with profound immortals, Lin Jin felt safe in the extraterritorial zone.

When combined with the blood ghost that controlled the spirit devouring ghost worms, Lin Jin had nothing to fear if he ever comes across profound immortals like Yan Shenjun again. The chances of a decisive victory were increased.

More importantly, Lin Jin was still mortal. Perhaps in all of history, he was the first mortal to be on par with an immortal.

Supporting Huang Shi Sanren, Zuo Men flew over. Miao Yan Zhenren led his disciples forward too. Lin Jin quickly went over to receive them.

After Dopey Bear’s rampaging episode, half of the Mystery Dao Sect was demolished. And worse, many of the sect’s immortals were injured too.

Had the perpetrator been anyone else, Miao Yan Zhenren would have already fallen out with them.

It would never be enough if Zuo Men and Huang Shi Sanren apologized for the trouble caused by Dopey Bear. Lin Jin knew he had to step forward or there would never be an end to this incident.

And so, he immediately bowed at Miao Yan Zhenren and apologized.

Indeed, Miao Yan Zhenren was enraged. He didn’t blame Lin Jin. His anger was directed toward Zuo Men and Huang Shi Sanren instead. In his opinion, Lin Jin had nothing to do with the bear going berserk. The two loose immortals must have done something stupid that forced to bear to go mad.

Half of the sect had been reduced to rubble and more than a dozen of his disciples were hurt. As the leader of their sect, how could Miao Yan Zhenren not be furious?

However, hearing Lin Jin apologize startled him. His response came quickly, “Mr. Lin, why are you saying this? You have absolutely nothing to do with this incident.”

Miao Yan Zhenren felt like thanking him instead. If Lin Jin hadn’t stepped in to turn the bear back to normal, who knew how much effort they would have to exert to bring the bear under control?

By then, they would have lost all their buildings.

Lin Jin replied, “Dopey Bear only went into a rampage because of me. Please issue whichever punishment that you see fit.”

Lin Jin bowed again.

Lin Jin decided to shoulder the blame. If he didn’t do so, Dopey Bear, Zuo Men, and Huang Shi Sanren would be through an ordeal.

He was confident that Miao Yan Zhenren wouldn’t do anything to him, which was the main reason why he shamelessly took the blame upon himself.

Sure enough, Miao Yan Zhenren’s face paled at this.

If Lin Jin was going to take responsibility, there wasn’t a lot he could say.

He couldn’t possibly reprimand or even kill Lin Jin, right?

Nonsense! The Mystery Dao Sect wasn’t a sect that repaid kindness with hostility. If he penalized Lin Jin, even if no one criticized him for it, his conscience wouldn’t forgive him.

Miao Yan Zhenren was no fool either. He could tell Lin Jin was using his honor to keep Dopey Bear and his two loose immortal friends safe.

His willingness to protect his friends was impressive.

Still, the Mystery Dao Sect had suffered too great a loss. Most of the destroyed halls were the fruit of their past effort. Some treasures were destroyed, and their disciples were injured. It wouldn’t be appropriate if he did not insist on holding the perpetrator to account.

For a moment there, Miao Yan Zhenren was faced with a tough decision.

Lin Jin was aware that he was asking too much this time, but he couldn’t help it. He had to keep Dopey Bear alive, and Zuo Men and Huang Shi Sanren were his friends. More importantly, he knew this was ultimately just an accident. It only happened because of Dopey Bear’s gluttony. The bear and Zuo Men didn’t mean the sect any harm at all.

If they had done it on purpose, Lin Jin would have let them fend for themselves.

At this point, he knew he had to offer Miao Yan Zhenren a way out as well. It wouldn’t be appropriate for Lin Jin to force the old man into such an awkward position without extending a lifeline.

And so, he gently coughed before turning around to bark at Dopey Bear, “You foolish bear! All you ever know is eat! You picked up a Tian Luo Blood Fruit and ate it without knowing what it was. See the mess you’ve made, and how much you’ve troubled Zuo Men and Huang Shi Sanren! Not only did you mess up the entire Mystery Dao Sect, but you’ve also hurt their people. If I was strong enough, I would have slapped you to death!”

Lin Jin’s scolding shocked everyone.

Zuo Men was about to say something, but Huang Shi Sanren was a clever man. He tugged on Zuo Men’s sleeve and whispered, “It’s an act. Don’t complicate things!”

Zuo Men stepped back after a moment of thinking.

Lin Jin continued to reprimand the bear.

“You silly bear! I’ve lost face begging for mercy on your behalf this time! Perhaps Miao Yan Zhenren won’t punish you, but after what you’ve done, you must take responsibility! You shall stay here from now on and help Miao Yan Zhenren rebuild the demolished buildings. Apart from that, you’ll have to guard the Mystery Dao Sect until the others have had enough time to recover.”

Upon hearing this, color returned to Miao Yan Zhenren’s pale face.

That was a good idea.

Lin Jin had proposed an ingenious solution. A while ago, Miao Yan Zhenren sensed Dopey Bear breaking into the profound immortal realm. In other words, they now stood on the same playing field.

With Dopey Bear guarding the sect, his schedule was freed up considerably. After all, Mr. Qi would have to rest up for a while so he would be very busy if he were to do everything alone.

If Dopey Bear could help, all was well.

How splendid!

His grudge immediately faded away. The sect’s disciples also nodded at this suggestion. They too, thought it would be nice if Dopey Bear served as the guardian immortal beast for their sect.

If members of their sect ran into trouble outside, they could act more confidently with the knowledge that they had something strong backing them up.

Meanwhile, Zuo Men and Huang Shi Sanren were shocked. Didn’t this mean they were allowed to continue staying here to study the profound cultivation methods and solidify their foundation?

Lin Jin’s solution made everyone happy.
