"Guild Hall?" Zeus muttered as he looked at his newly made identification card. The card has his name on it, age and address. Additionally, a signature of the Duke was signed in the bottom right corner proving its authenticity.
However, his name was the only thing different. I
It was not the Walton surname that he got use to.
[ Zeus Ambrose.]
'It's not bad.'
"Mm, they are the ones who manage all adventurers in the kingdom. With the referral, you can at least skip the screening which they conduct for rookies. Don't be happy though as you still need to pass the examination which I'm confident you can do." Duke Kayn explained.
Zeus sat on the couch and examined his current situation. Adventurers are also considered the backbones of each kingdom as they purged the monsters around in the form of missions. There's no doubt about it. However, he had one concern.
"Wouldn't this be suspicious? Although I'm not sure, there should be someone monitoring all your actions, right?" Zeus asked.
"Well, about that, you don't need to worry. Once the guild master got that referral, he will already know what to do. As for those rats, they don't know that you're my adopted son so they'll probably ignore your existence."
"By the way, when are we going?"
"Oh, Diane should be waiting for you outside the manor. She's an adventurer after all. I already told her to accompany you."
"Diane?" Zeus tilted his head. 'That girl that looks like a brute?'
Her personality seemed to be the happy-go-lucky girl but Zeus never really thought of her being an adventurer.
"I see… I'll take my leave now, Duke."
Duke Kayn shook his head and smiled, "Go on. Be careful out there."
"Yes, sir!"
After an energetic response, Zeus ran out of the Duke's office and rushed outside the manor. Many maids and butlers greeted him respectfully but he didn't bother to address them back. After all, he's in a rush.
A few minutes later, Zeus finally arrived outside.
Diane was leaning on a beast that looks like a horse. The only difference is that this horse is bigger and small flames are burning around its foot.
However, what attracted him the most was her revealing outfit consisting of a red bikini top and low-rise denim jeans. A long red overcoat wrapped tightly around her body with the Ambrose Family Insignia plastered on the right shoulders. She also wore black boots and black fingerless gloves.
"What are you looking at, brat?" A luscious voice called Zeus out of his dazed expression.
"Mountains." Zeus calmly responded.
"..."
Diane glared at him for a moment before tying her red hair in a bun. After that, she nudged her head, motioning for Zeus to take a seat on the horse. "Get up."
Hearing her words, Zeus shook his head. He asked, "Can I use Shelly?"
"Shelly? Who's that?"
"Ah, it's my bird pet."
"A bird? That's not possible." Diane shook her head. "If you want to fly freely in the capital, you need a license otherwise you'll be shot down by the guards."
"There are such rules?"
"Of course! What do you think would happen if there's not? An enemy could just disguise themselves as merchants and before you know it, destructive spells would be raining down on you."
Diane rode on top of the horse and shortly afterward, Zeus also rode on another one. The trip was also longer than he thought. They passed by many attractions but Zeus couldn't enjoy the view as Diane seemed to be in a rush.
Half an hour later, the two finally arrived.
"Before we enter, make sure not to be intimidated by the people inside. They like playing with the rookies and seeing your face, they'll surely pick on you."
"Got it!"
"Another thing to remember, be careful of the so-called guides. Some of them aren't trustworthy and there are also cases where they bait their victims. So, be wary of them."
Zeus kept her reminder in his head.
Shortly afterwards, Zeus followed Diane into a large 3-story brick house that looks nothing like the guild hall he imagined. It was enclosed in a steel gate with a large open space where many currently come and go.
As they passed by the gate, 2 men wearing full body steel armor blocked the path.
Diane presented them with her adventurer card and Zeus' referral mail.
"Welcome to the guild hall."
"Thank you." She said as she motioned Zeus to follow.
Zeus followed behind, ignoring the gazes of many people who seemed to be emitting a large amount of hostility. It was only directed at him.
Although it's truly a not-so-good experience, Zeus didn't get intimidated. What's more, with the number of people here, it would be difficult to track where that hostility comes from.
A few minutes later, they reached the counter where the receptionist immediately recognized their arrival.
"M-miss Diane!"
"We have an appointment with the guild master." Diane said as she slid the referral letter to the woman.
"The guild master is already waiting for you at the Test Room."
"I see. Let's go." Diane said while looking at Zeus. One of the receptionists led them to a room seemingly enveloped in a bubble. It was transparent so it was difficult to take notice but the closer you get, the easier it would be to see the strangeness of the area.
Diane opened the door and they sauntered into the room. A middle-aged man with semi-bald hair and a fit physique could be seen standing near the window, overlooking the scene outside with a nonchalant gaze.
"Guild Master Gram." Diane greeted the man respectfully after entering the room.
Despite her greeting, the man remained unresponsive and didn't turn around.
Zeus inspected the man from the sidelines with a somewhat nervous feeling. It felt as if standing in front of a lion while being a deer.
"Daughter of Duke Kayn, why have you come?" Gram's deep vocal tone echoed in the room.
"I came to deliver a referral from my father." Diane hurriedly replied.

"Well, of course, he'd do that." After a brief pause, he continued, "What's this referral for?"
"It's for my brother's adventurer's license."
"Just take the normal procedure, why bother me?" Gram snarled.
The room was filled with silence. Zeus could even hear the sound of Diane gulping in nervousness. For Zeus, Gram seemed to be the type of guy that was always in serious mode. It would be hard talking to this man.
"It's from my father."
"From my father this, from my father that. I'm asking a simple question. Why…bother… me?" Gram turned around them and said in a condescending tone. His jet-black eyes glared at them with a serious look on his face.
"It's a request from my father. I don't know the details, guild master. Here's the mail he sent to you." Diane nervously handed the red mail and hastily stepped back away from Gram.
Zeus remained motionless but his body was in a high state of alertness. If this man dared to do something to them, he wouldn't mind fighting back even though he knows he's going to lose.
Gram unfolded the mail and read the letter out loud.
"To Gram, it's been a long time since I visited you. Although this might sound sudden, I have a request. Please let my son, Zeus, take part in your examination. I don't want to expose him to the others yet so I'm asking for a favor to give him a private test. — Kayn Ambrose."
Gram stared at the letter for a moment before looking at Zeus. His eyes narrowed as he observed the boy from top to bottom.
"A child from his mistress?"
"No." Zeus shook his head.
"You don't look special but… you are."
"Cause I'm not." Zeus blurted out.
"Really?" Gram smirked and continued, "A trace of casting a lightning spell means you awakened one of the cardinal elements. A calloused hands probably from training for more than 5 years. Fit physique and this overwhelming physical presence, are you telling me you're not special?"
Hearing his words, Zeus flinched. The gaze of this man seemed able to penetrate through his secrets. Thinking of the possibility, his body shuddered.
"Your name is Diane right?"
"Yes, guild master."
"Alright, listen here Diane. Go back and tell your father, I'm going to accept this letter from him. When I'm not busy, I'm going to your house and claim my compensation."
"Understood, guild master!"
Diane bowed slightly and slipped past the room leaving Zeus standing there alone. Gram sat on his office seat and began reviewing the paperwork.
"Do you wish to take the exam now?" Gram asked.
"Can you tell me the details of this exam first? I have never researched anything until now so I'm clueless." Zeus honestly said.
Gram didn't seem to mind as he answered nonchalantly, "Written and combat. It's like that to assure that anyone who wants to become an adventurer is physically and mentally prepared."
Zeus nodded. It seemed like not all people could become an adventurer. However, he's confident that he's mentally prepared when fighting monsters. His mental fortitude was already tempered since he was a kid.
After taking a deep breath, Zeus nodded.
"I'm ready, guild master."
