Chapter 23 The Plan
(Peter's P.O.V)
Harry was acting… different. I mean, it makes sense given the situation, but ever since I'd gotten bitten by that spider I had a feeling for these things. I could notice things faster and clearer than before. Which is why I felt like my best friend's behavior was strange.
I decided to hold off on asking any questions however. He was distraught because of his missing his father and he also had the company to worry about. We were both growing up, I reasoned and I couldn't always expect that things were always going to stay the same. Change is constant. I just wish it wasn't so confusing.
We were playing games and I was letting him badly beat me. Anything to push the bad thoughts away. That's what a friend does, right?
"Master Parker, there's a phone call for you."
Bernard, the Osborn's butler said from the entrance of the game room.
"I'll be down in just a minute Bernard."
I told him too engrossed in the game.
"It's your brother. He says it's urgent."
Brian? What could he want? I jumped off the comfortable sofa and went to pick the phone in the hallway.
"Hello?"
Brian's voice came through sounding serious. Nothing like I'd ever heard before.
"Pete, are you at Harry's."
"Yeah. What's going on?"
"Get outta there, now!"
I didn't think. My spider sense blared out suddenly and I looked outside the window in the hallway to see of all things… a missile. A bloody frickin missile headed straight for me. I took off towards it knowing that if it came close and exploded, I could maybe survive due to my durability but Bernard, Harry and countless others would die. I sprinted forwards, putting on my mask that I kept inside my inner jacket pocket.
I grabbed a vase stand before slamming through the window. There wasn't time to think about anything else so I threw the stand forward to collide with the missile which was now too close for comfort. I… was going to die here. If the point blank blast didn't kill me, then surely falling from such a huge height would do so. The missile plowed into the vase stand and a huge shockwave blasted out.
The noise was deafening. I was thrown away and then suddenly my feet landed on the ground.
What the? I'm fine. I patted my body down expecting pain or something…
"Is this what death is like?"
I asked only to be answered by a hug from my brother, a rare thing. I opened my eyes as Brian stepped back laughing. I pulled the mask off my face and took a deep breath.
"Trying to fight a missile? Really?"
Brian asked with a smirk on his face.
I ignored him, a sigh of relief escaped me as my wildly beating heart finally calmed down. I was still alive.
After the relief, came the anger.
(Brian's P.O.V)
I cut the call when Peter went silent and turned to Griffin. I had succeeded in healing him though it took away a quarter of my ki. I really needed to get better control.
"Osborn loft. Let's go.
Griffin grabbed my hand and we teleported onto the sidewalk. I looked up at the building and saw a blur, in the shape of a person blast through the windows. It was Peter. And a missile was headed towards him.
"Griffin!"
I shouted at him and he jumped.
'True Reveal!'
I activated the skill and watched him reappear in midair. My worries were laid to rest when a loud crack sounded and they instantly appeared before me.
My body acted on it's own as I hugged Peter. The explosion luckily hadn't done any damage to him and he was okay. I pulled back as he looked at me funnily.
"Trying to fight a missile? Really?"
He seemed out of it but after calming down a resolute look flashed in his eyes. My face changed to match his expression.
"Peter this is Griffin. He's the one who saved you."
They looked at each other and Peter said,
"Thank you."
Griffin nodded.
"You'll get to know each other better later. Right now we have something to deal with."
I told them before continuing.
"Pete, someone is after us. They almost killed me and they put Uncle Ben to the hospital."
His eyes widened in horror.
"What? Is he okay?!"
"I...I don't know. I wasn't able to go see him because you and Aunt May were in danger."
"Oh my god! We need to get to her now!"
He turned to leave but I grabbed his hand.
"Wait Pete. It's us they're after."
"But Aunt May..."
"I know. I know. We're gonna make sure they're both safe okay? Here's the plan, you go to Aunt May and bring her home if she isn't already. She's probably at that bakery she loves so much or has already rushed to the hospital after hearing about the store exploding. There are seals around the house for protection so take her there."
"What about you?"
"I'll go see Uncle Ben in the hospital. If Aunt May is already there then that's also okay. We can plan our next strategy from there."
They both nodded while I turned to address Griffin.
"After you teleport me to the hospital, I need you to scout out all the Paladin's bases and safe houses you can. While healing you, I also added a seal to make you less noticable. So just teleport in, where you can. Get a rough estimate of how heavily guarded they are and steal any information you can. I especially want you to find out Roland's location. He gives me the impression of a hunting dog. He won't give up unless he's down for the count."
Griffin nodded.
"How close to xxx xxx street in Queens can you teleport to?"
"Pretty close."
"Good. Take Peter there first then come and get me."
This would have all been easier of Aunt May had picked up the phone. Unfortunately she wasn't available.
A second later Griffin appeared before me.
"It's done."

"Ok let's go."
He placed a hand on my shoulders and the familiar feeling I had associated with slipping through the cracks in reality happened. I was close to finding out how a jumper essentially teleports. You see, they opened up a rift in space. It was just something that they could do. True Reveal identified a certain trait that was inside Griffin that I found lacking in me and Peter. I guess you could call it the 'Jumper Trait.'
Griffin couldn't have arrived in my life at a better time. I had a feeling that this trait was what I needed to not only acquire teleportation but also dimensional travel. We instantly arrived inside the hospital parking lot.
" Wait."
I told him and then reached out to touch his chest, activating the 'notice-me-not' seal. He gave me another burner cellphone.
"This will let us keep in touch."
I nodded as he disappeared suddenly.
I observed the crack and reached out to touch it before it could disappear.
Wait a second...I smiled as I came to a surprising conclusion.
(Roland P.O.V)
"Status update?"
"We have the target's Aunt in sight but...the second target is with her."
Dammit.
He had tried to kill them but unfortunately that was a burst. Now that they knew someone was after them, they would be on guard and make his job harder. Roland didn't know their weaknesses. And he didn't want to find out about them while confronting them head-on. This job required a little more finesse and gorilla tactics than he usually delt in.
"Withdraw for the moment."
He gave the order for retreat, which left a bitter taste in his mouth. If only It wasn't the best decision currently.
(Brian's P.O.V)
I held Uncle Ben's hand while listening to his steady breathing. Fortunately, he wasn't as badly injured as I'd thought. He had a concussion and a few burns on his left arm but other than that he was okay. That didn't stop the promise of retribution I had promised to give Roland. That white haired Samuel L Jackson looking motherfucker thought he could endanger my loved ones and make it out okay? He has another thing coming.
The door to the hospital room flew open. Aunt May walked in looking worried sick. Peter came in closely behind.
"He's alright Aunt May. Just sleeping."
I told her while we hugged. She sniffled a bit, a few tears falling from her eyes.
She then went next to him and caressed his jaw lovingly. I started feeling subconscious and motioned to Peter for us to leave, in order give her a few minutes alone with him. Once outside, Peter frowned.
"I... noticed a few people tailing us but after a while they left."
"Roland must have decided to pull back seeing as you were vigilant and ready for a fight. He strikes me as someone who likes to be in control of the situation."
Peter ran a hand through his face.
"This sucks. I feel so... useless. All this power and we could have still lost Uncle Ben today. We need to be better...stronger. I refuse to let something like this happen again."
I nodded.
"I feel the same way Pete. But remember, taking things slow is the way to go. There's no need to rush."
He nodded before looking hesitant.
"Hey can I talk to you...?"
He asked and I nodded.
Then he led me to a bench near Uncle Ben's room.
"You huh...you remember those documents you got me about the Super soldier serum?"
He started and I nodded, already suspecting where this talk was going.
"Yes. I remember. You told me it was hard to stabilize the formula as well as cut out the side effects caused by administering it."
He rubbed the back of his head.
"While... that's all true, the fight with Doomsday, the monster we fought 2 weeks ago showed me that we need to be better prepared to face more threats like him. So I..."
He trailed off and looked away.
"You used your crazy stupidly smart brain to use the information I gave you, to form a base for a a new Super soldier serum that you're developing."
He looked at me in surprise.
"How..."
I rolled my eyes.
"Come on Pete. I've lived with you almost my whole life. I know you better than anyone else except for Aunt May and Uncle Ben."
"It's...it's not complete yet. I'm just missing something. The last missing piece to the whole puzzle."
I shook my head.
"I don't know how to feel about that Pete. I mean you're messing with dangerous stuff. Plus, I thought Bio-chem isn't a part of your specialty?"
He laughed and looked at me embarrassed.
"I...huh...I decided to make it one of my specialties?"
Uh-huh.
At that moment, Griffin opened the door of the wing and walked in. He nodded to me and I got up.
"We'll talk about this later."
I told Peter.
He looked at Griffin and turned his attention to me.
"Give them hell."
"I will. I promise."
