Bang! Bang! Bang!
Three shots were fired within a second. The three bullets flew through the windshield at terrifying accuracy and lodged themselves into the skull of the Mexican man. Brain fluids and fresh blood were immediately splattered across the cracked windshield. Losing its driver, the van went out of control, crashing into the curb and into one of the police cars. It was a blessing that the van was travelling slowly. The slowed speed allowed the vehicle to stop right after impact. If the driver was driving at a faster speed, there was a high chance that the vehement impact would detonate the explosives inside.
Watching the van stop, Xia Lei heaved a sigh of relief. His mind fixated on replaying snippets of events that took place when he fired his pistol.
When he raised his pistol, his right eye informed him with a long string of numbers and some text. The target distance is 312 m 48 cm, exceeding the current shooting range of 162 m. The wind speed is 3 m/s, the wind direction from the northwest. The target distance is 289 meters and 79 cm, it is beyond the shooting range... The muzzle is shifted up by 1.1 cm, 3 shots, the interval is 0.33 seconds…
This was the mental process that took place when shooting the van’s driver.
When that happened, his right eye was merely offering an image while his brain had supplied him with extensive data and information. It was thanks to the cooperation between his right eye and brain that he was able to access those valuable insights. Simply, the right eye was a material feeder while the brain had refined the material into something useful.
Compared to his X-ray vision, the right eye’s ability was more towards an extension of his mind’s power. While the manifestation of his abilities felt abrupt, it was actually inevitable. This was bound to happen. His mind was ever-evolving and the mineral-like substances in his brain had also been increasing subtly. With that context, it was not surprising that his right eye had suddenly obtained such power out of the blue.
Confused, Xia Lei’s heart was quivering with emotions.
If this had happened in the past, there was no way Xia Lei would fire a bullet without hesitation. The Viper pistol only had a shooting effective range of a hundred and fifty meters. To shoot a target one time further from this range would nullify his accuracy. But his evolved right eye would be a game-changer. His right eye had made the unthinkable possible!
“Why today specifically?” Xia Lei scratched the back of his head. “Was this triggered by my two near-death experiences? Or was it because my body is constantly evolving and today so happened to be the day it decided to show it? Now that my right eye has evolved, what’s next? What is the result of my final evolved form?”
The heap of questions troubled Xia Lei.
A few policemen rushed over to Xia Lei, with their guns trained on Xia Lei. The policeman exclaimed, “Put your weapon down or I’ll shoot!”
That brought Xia Lei back to reality. These policemen did not know who he was. It was only natural for them to have such responses. But before Xia Lei could even toss the Viper pistol onto the ground, a few agents screamed into their direction.
“Put your guns down! He is one of us!” A higher ranking agent jeered fiercely.
It was only then the policemen eased off and lowered their guns frantically.
Tang Yuyan dashed out of the bar and stared at the van two hundred metres away in sheer shock. She stared at it, then stared at Xia Lei. Her surprise rendered her speechless. Tang Yuyan was no stranger to the Viper pistol’s properties. Its power was second only to the world-famous Desert Eagle. But despite that, even with Tang Yuyan’s proud marksmanship, there was no way she could hit a target at three hundred metres away with the Viper pistol.
An agent went over and checked the van’s condition. His voice quickly relayed over through the communicator. He yelped, “Oh my god! A clean headshot! Advisor Xia is insane!”
Tang Yuyan stared at the scene blankly, not knowing what to say. In her eyes, Xia Lei was already a higher entity. But it seemed that this man was constantly climbing higher in that department!
Xia Lei kept his Viper pistol away. “Yuyan, the van is carrying a lot of explosives. The driver might be part of the FA Organization. Call the bomb disposal unit over.”
Tang Yuyan was finally brought out of her trance. She nodded. “I’ll have someone handle this. But you…”
Xia Lei knew what she was trying to ask. He offered her a smile. “I have done some alterations to my pistol. I'm going to head back now. Please come earlier tomorrow, I’ll be waiting for you with your meal.”
“I will be there,” answered Tang Yuyan softly as she watched him leave.
Xia Lei walked along the street slowly. After about fifty metres, he whipped his head around. Tang Yuyan was still standing there on the empty street watching him. His right eye twitched slightly and took in her image. Following that was an onslaught of information. Height 175 cm, weight 56.39 kg. Bust 82 cm, waist 58 cm, hip 88 cm, leg length 108 cm…

One second later, his left eye twitched again and awakened his X-ray vision. All he could see now was an unclothed Tang Yuyan, a pure unadulterated pristine scenery. His brain was again filled with the same information. Height 175 cm, weight 56.39 kg. Bust 82 cm, waist 58 cm, hip 88 cm, leg length 108 cm…
Weirdly, once his eyes had landed on a certain spot on Tang Yuyan’s body, his mind had supplied him a string of numbers correspondingly. 3678 strands of pubic hair…
The appearance of those mind-breaking numbers caused him to turn around frantically. There was no way he could continue staring at Tang Yuyan. Trying to ease this awkwardness, Xia Lei could only force a curl of the edge of his lips. “What the fuck? That’s all it takes to get a clear number?”
He was even silently grateful that his gaze did not linger long. Perhaps another second would further complicate things. The combination of his left and right eye had great potential to be raunchy.
Meanwhile, though Xia Lei was already out of sight, Tang Yuyan remained her blank gaze into the direction where the man had left. She thought to herself, “If what Folsom said was true, he would be a man that has far surpassed that of current human evolution. To what extent will his evolution continue? As a woman, being paired with a man like this would certainly bring no regrets. Would the children inside Fan Fan, Long Bing, Jiang Ruyi and Liang Siyao share some parts of his ability? If that is the case, his offsprings would certainly bring the Xia family into unimaginable heights. Children, huh? I want to have one that has Xia Lei’s ability too…”
She was suddenly reminded of something, causing her to fumble for her phone. “Hello, Doctor Huang? I would like to ask… Yeah, that sample. Is everything alright? ...Oh, that’s great news! I’m so glad. Thank you.”
She drawled a sigh as soon as the call ended, a smile forming on her lips.
Half an hour later, a taxi emerged onto the street where the Japanese Embassy was located.
“Brother, we’re here at the Japanese Embassy,” announced the taxi driver.
Xia Lei replied, “Can you wait here? I won’t be going down, I’ll book your service for the entire day.”
“Sure, that’s no problem. We can stay here for as long as you like.” The taxi driver was absolutely delighted.
Xia Lei rolled down the back windows and watched the embassy on the opposite side of the road. Yang Shan had mentioned that Hattori Mei was here the day before yesterday. While Xia Lei remained sceptical over his words, Xia Lei wanted to see it for himself and confirm its legitimacy. If Hattori Mei was here as told, Xia Lei would need to launch an operation!
His left and right eye went into perfect teamwork, exposing the interior of the Japanese Embassy to a state of transparency.
This was the first time he had conducted a combined investigation over a building in this whole new mode.
In the past, Xia Lei wasn’t able to penetrate through cement or rock structures with his left eye. This was new. Things were way different now, the thick concrete wall was penetrated without any problem. The exact thickness of the wall was supplied to the front of his mind. Everything his right eye came in contact with had appeared alongside accurate data and relevant information. Even the details of the bulbs were not spared! No matter who it was, their height, weight, muscle strength and so on would manifest at lightning speed in his mind. This ability was excruciatingly detailed!
It only took him five minutes to scan a three-storey building completely.
Hattori Mei was not inside the Japanese Embassy.
But as Xia Lei was about to call it quits, someone in the third-floor office seized the phone abruptly.
Xia Lei had a gut feeling, quickly focusing his sight on the target’s lips.
The middle-aged man spoke into the phone. “Hello? Yes, I have just received reports from our informant. It was a failure, Xia Lei had shot the FA guerilla fighter before he had a chance to detonate the bomb. Sorry, I don’t have an explanation for that. Xia Lei was using a pistol but the target was three hundred meters away. Miss Hattori, please do not come to China for the time being. The situation is very turbulent here. Alright, I got it. I’ll see to it myself…”
Coincidentally, this phone call was made to a certain Hattori Mei.
Xia Lei peeled his attention off the middle-aged man as soon as the exchange ended. It was sheer luck that this investigation did not leave him empty-handed, Xia Lei had at least gotten something useful out of it. Hattori Mei had already left China. This operation was led by the CIA’s Jingdu informant base with involvement of Japanese agents.
“Hattori Mei, after I ease my work I’ll be visiting soon for sweet revenge. It won’t make a difference even if you were to be in America or Japan.” Xia Lei’s glare was icy cold.
The taxi finally left the street and made a large detour before it stopped again nearby Bureau 101. Xia Lei paid the driver handsomely and left the premise again with Long Bing’s Knight XV for the Thunder Horse Organization headquarters.
