Chapter 37: 37

For some reason, Xiang Ning found Dong Qianyi strange. He was staring at Dong Qianyi when he suddenly realized something and turned to lock eyes with him.

Xiang Ning froze. Dong Qianyi’s eyes were plain, but staring into them was like falling into an inescapable vortex. He felt himself wake up with a jolt. When he focused his eyes again, Dong Qianyi was smiling at him. He felt like the man had seen through his entire being.

Fang Rou noticed Xiang Ning acting odd. “What’s the matter with you? Let’s go get our stuff.”

“Alright, coming.” Xiang Ning didn’t tell Fang Rou about his feeling; all he knew was that Dong Qianyi was no ordinary man.

He took his usual iridium sword, which was a meter and a half long and weighed twenty-three kilograms. It was made of an iridium alloy that wouldn’t break during a battle with any beast of tier two and below.

Xiang Ning knew that each iridium sword was worth at least eighty thousand dollars. Although they were expensive, killing beasts with them was a quick way to earn one’s money back.

As for the uniforms, he was also aware that each set was worth at least a hundred and fifty thousand dollars. That was just the price for tier one uniforms, the stronger tier two and three sets cost a lot more. Most of the materials used to make them were obtained from fearsome beasts, because beasts beyond tier four had hides that could block bullets from anti-material weapons!

After the equipment was distributed, Lei Zhongyuan announced in his booming voice, “Next, we’ll get you familiarized with your weapons and give you all a taste of danger.” When he finished, he broke into a smirk that sent some students into a panic.

…

Xiang Ning exited the changing room, coincidentally meeting Fang Rou, who had also finished changing. “Why’d you get two weapons?”

Fang Rou was already clad in her combat uniform with a sharp dagger strapped on top of her pant leg. “I’ll be controlling this one with my Mental Power,” she explained. “Pure spiritual cultivators rarely use cold weapons because they have spiritual armor for protection, but often, it’s because many cold weapons require integration with martial skills. Without wearing their spiritual armor, spiritual cultivators are unable to cultivate those martial skills because their bodies aren’t strong enough.”

She paused, then pulled out the dagger and held it out before continuing, “However, the strength of spiritual cultivators lies in their Mental Power. They can control non-living objects in battle.”

Fang Rou demonstrated, levitating the dagger and slashing it back and forth.

“How many of those can you control?” asked Xiang Ning. Wasn’t this the same as his Telekinesis?

“One unit. We measure this controlling ability in units. So far, I can only make it levitate without doing much damage. If I truly want to cause damage, I need to be at least tier one, three-star, but even then it would merely serve as a supplement in battle.” She shook her head.

Xiang Ning nodded in understanding. Just like martial artists, the stronger their bodies were, the more damage they could cause. Compared to Fang Rou, he could control two units with his Telekinesis after he had broken through to tier one, but he still didn’t know how much damage he could cause with them.

“Hmmph, I can’t believe a part-timer’s thinking about being a spiritual cultivator. Can you even afford spiritual armor?” Li Minghao passed by with a cold huff. He was growing more and more irritated by the day. Although he was a martial artist himself, he was stunned when he learned Xiang Ning was a tier one, six-star martial artist. His blood boiled with humiliation and anger. That beating in the canteen was for nothing after all; it was that day he began suspecting that Xiang Ning was beyond Physical Tempering stage four. He felt humiliated. When he saw Xiang Ning talking to Fang Rou from his class, it irritated him. She was a student from his class—how dare she talk to him! Thus, he couldn’t help but interrupt them.

“Li Minghao, your Yintang point* looks dark. You’re going to have an unlucky day,” said Xiang Ning. [1]

Li Minghao’s chest tightened. “What do you think you’re doing? This is a school.”

“Hehe,” Xiang Ning chuckled, causing Li Minghao’s hairs to stand on end.

“Ming, why’re you even talking to a part-timer? So what if he’s strong now? With your resources and access to martial skills, you’ll eventually surpass him. You’re way out of his league.” Another person appeared from behind Li Minghao.

Fang Rou frowned. This person was the strongest student in their class, Zhao Huatai. Although he was a tier one, six-star martial artist, like Xiang Ning, he was still stronger because he had three Assimilated martial skills under his belt. Apparently, Huatai used to go out hunting fearsome beasts to train himself. He was brutal.

“Zhao Huatai, this is between the two of them, stay out of it.” Fang Rou’s expression cooled. She was familiar with him because he was a regular at the Thunder Dojo.

When he had just broken through and become a martial artist, he’d already been able to fight three equal-level opponents at the same time. He had great combat experience because his father was a tier five martial artist and took special care in his training.

Zhao Huatai pursed his lips. Yes, he was powerful, but he didn’t want to cross the lady of the dojo. She had a tier seven martial artist behind her.

“Hmmph.” Zhao Huatai left with Li Minghao without a word, privately displeased. How had this bastard captured Fang Ruo’s attention? In the end, Xiang Ning is just a kiss-ass, let’s see how he keeps it up in the next section of the class.

Xiang Ning rubbed his face. He felt like he was being seen as just a pretty boy toy.

“Zhao Huatai shouldn’t be underestimated, and he and Li Minghao are childhood friends. Be careful, he’s manipulative. So don’t fall into his traps. And his father is a tier five martial artist,” reminded Fang Rou.

Xiang Ning nodded without a word, taking out a notebook and a pen.

“What’re you doing?”

“Nothing, just noting down the events of the day so I can take revenge when the time comes.”

Fang Rou inwardly facepalmed.

Very soon, Lei Zhongyuan and a group of soldiers led the students deeper into the campus until they arrived at a vast piece of empty land.

Since when was there such a huge space on campus? The students who weren’t familiar with the school were shocked, while Xiang Ning didn’t really think much of it. Only the metal cages of different sizes placed on the ground caught his attention. Every cage contained a bloodthirsty beast.

1. The Yintang point is located at the glabella, the space between your eyebrows. Traditionally, if this spot darkens, it means the person is in ill health or a tragedy is about to befall them ☜
