Chapter 42: Chapter 38: Alan 2

"Hum, where am I? Did I get re-reincarnated?" Alan muttered as he was once again transported to an unknown place against his will. A little annoyed and curious, he started looking around, trying to see where he ended up.

Unfortunately for him, there was nothing to see. This place was the very definition of void. His existence was the only thing that disrupted the desolate and empty starry sky in the middle of which he was floating.

"Could it be that I was in some kind of simulation this whole time?" Alan muttered as he curiously looked at the countless stars scattered in the sky.

"But it didn’t look like one. It was too real." Alan said as he remembered the pain he felt when he woke up, the vividness of Alan’s memory, the warmth of Crea, and the pain in his father’s eyes. As someone whose whole life was VRcentrique, he had learnt to discern the subtle difference between the real world and virtual worlds. And he was sure Aria wasn’t a virtual world. At least, he wished it wasn’t.

"Unless some people already created a technology better than Gaia, this should be a real world. Where am I then?" He muttered as he strolled around. Unfortunately, no matter the direction he chose, all he could see was the same beautiful but dull starry void.

"Well, I guess the best I could do is to make something out of my time here." Alan said as he sat in the void and started looking through this body memory. Previously, all he did was skim through the major events this body experienced to get a general understanding of his situation.

Now, his goal was to look for knowledge related to the power system of this world.

Mana. It represented everything in this world. Everything in this world revolved around mana. It was what money represented to his old world.

Those who could master it could stand at the apex of this world. While those who lacked aptitude with mana could only wallow at the unfairness of the world.

Still, was it that difficult to grasp mana?

The answer was no, at least not according to the standards of Aria, a prime world overflowing with mana and elemental energy. For the inhabitants of such a world, it was an easy thing to fulfill the basic requirement to use and absorb mana.

After all, all that was needed to grasp the basics of mana was to possess Mana veins.

For Arian who are bathed in mana since they are in their mother’s womb, it was a certainty that they would fulfill these conditions. Actually, it was easier to find phoenix ashes than to find an Arian without mana veins.

Thus, all Arian could easily absorb mana and strengthen their body, taking their first steps in the quest for power.

Still, that was far from enough if one aim was the top. Not Aria’s apex at least.

While owning mana veins could grant everyone the chance to step on the path of power, the quality of the mana veins would determine someone’s potential.

There were five grades of mana veins: basic, intermediate, high, top, and supreme. Above those five, were the rumored treasured veins. However, those veins belong to legend and even in a world like Aria, they only appeared once in millennia.

The higher the rank of one mana veins, the quicker one could absorb mana, the better the mana one would refine would be and the higher one limit would be in each rank.

"If I am not wrong, the owner of this body didn’t even get his mana veins awakened." Alan muttered as he found no memory of the awakening ceremony. He was already 16 and the ceremony should have taken place when he was 13, a year after his mother’s death.

To preserve himself, he decided to forego the ceremony. He knew perfectly well what kind of fate awaited him if he were to awaken powerful mana veins.

"He died despite all that. Luckily, it isn’t too late." Alan muttered as he remembered that there would be no consequences if the mana veins are left in a dormant state. He would have been troubled if they had been awakened and then sealed. Fortunately, it wasn’t the case so there was nothing to worry about.

"Let’s continue then."

If owning mana veins was the condition common to all the paths, there exist many conditions one needs to fulfill depending on the path one is choosing.

All the practitioners of this world could be classified into two groups: the warriors who focus on their bodies and the spellcasters who focus on the control of elements.

When it comes to warriors, other than having mana veins, one needs to have a suitable body constitution and optionally a good elemental affinity.

As for spellcasters, one needs to have mental power and a good elemental affinity.

Alan was more interested in the warrior’s path and that wasn’t without reason. After fighting with a spear for so many years, he wasn’t ready to drop it and change his path without reason. He was sure that he could get back all his skills as long as he tried.

Thus he put any knowledge about magic aside and focused his attention on knowledge related to warriors.

When it comes to warriors, there were two mainstream paths on Aria.

Those who directly trained their body and those who trained internal essence.

The first group focused purely on the training of their body. Their way was to use mana along with physical training and various treasures to strengthen and refine their body to the utmost, to the point that their bodies wouldn’t be any weaker than those of beasts.

Meanwhile, the second group didn’t train their body directly. They refine mana into internal essence that could be used to strengthen their body while fighting.

In this group, those with good elemental affinity could go further by absorbing elemental energy and refining internal essence with an elemental nature. Elemental essence was stronger than the simple internal essence and could grant an elemental nature to the attacks of those who possess it.

At the same time, those of the second group could also train their body the same way as those of the first group did.

In a certain sense, internal essence users could be considered superior to those body refiners since body refiners are mostly made of people who only own mana veins but lack any other special aptitude.

On the other hand, internal force users need to have the aptitude to refine mana into internal essence and could practice the same way as body refiners.

Other than that there was a third group composed of people who not only have the aptitude to use internal force but also have the aptitude to become spell casters. They were dubbed magic warriors. Unfortunately, few choose this path as it was considered better to focus on one path only. And it wasn't without reason as most of those who threaded this path failed at the end.

"Well, that is quite interesting." Alan muttered as he was quite satisfied with what he learned. Even though his knowledge was far from complete, he now had an idea of what he had to do.

"Hopefully, my body would have the aptitude to use internal essence." Alan muttered as he really wished to continue on the path he was already threading. If he could, all he would need to do was to focus on training his body. Once his body strength was enough,  he should be able to reproduce the techniques and skills he learnt from the game.

However, if he changed his path, he would need to learn everything from zero, considerably slowing his growth. He wasn't willing to.

As he was having those thoughts, the void he was floating in finally had some changes. Slowly, a twisting portal was opened in front of him and before he could react, he was thrown inside.

"Damn." Alan cursed as he tried to steady himself.

"And where am I now?" He said as he looked at the scenery around himself.

"But isn’t that my private domain?" He muttered as he looked at the small cabin standing inside a clearing beside a small lake.

While this place was as empty as the starry sky he found himself in previously, it didn’t give him the same feeling of desolation. Instead, as he looked at the small cabin with grass swaying around, and the clear water of the lake, his heart was filled with a sense of peace and belonging.

"Yeah, this is definitely my domain." He said as he calmly walked toward the cabin.

As he opened the door, he could see that everything was the same as before. The soft rug on the floor, the comfy couch, the burning fire in the middle of the fireplace, the weapon rack….

-Wait. That spear. It couldn’t be. Alan muttered as his face was filled with disbelief and excitement.

There, on the weapon rack, laid a beautiful spear with intricate marking all over its body.

Hurriedly moving toward the weapon rack, he grabbed the 2-meter long black spear and stroked it lightly.

"Yeah, it is definitely you." He said as he touched the sharp and imposing twenty centimeters long blade of the spear.

As he was playing with the spear, a floating window appeared in front of him.

However, the surprises were far from over as when he finished reading through the spear details, he found two new objects floating in front of him.

And those objects too weren’t strangers to him.

First was a ring. [Ring of twisted fairness]

And then a crystal. [Phantom spear sovereign inheritance]

"What is going on here?" He asked as he suddenly found himself in possession of the three items behind his rise in Gaia.

Why did they follow him here? How could they follow him here? He wondered as he swept his gaze over the three items.

Meanwhile, while Alan was asking himself all those questions inside his room, Crea had returned inside his room and was silently gazing at the empty bed.

Her demeanor was now cold and unfathomable, completely different from the innocent and lively feeling she gave in front of Alan.

As she was standing there, her gaze turned blank and she started shaking violently while constantly mumbling something only she could understand.

If anyone were to look at her right now, their heart would be filled with a sense of discomfort and eeriness.

Gradually, she calmed down and her gaze returned to normal as she finally seemed to see what she was looking for.

At the last moment, she muttered one word. Amarach.

As if understanding something, she turned back, her gaze determined.

'Don't worry brother, I won't let anything stand in your way.' She said as she looked at the empty room one last time and then left.
