Chapter 48: Chapter 44: Cooperation

"Hello, we need to talk." Leila said

"Oh, you are Leila, right?" Leo asked, somehow surprised. Even though he knew she was up to no good, he never expected that she would attempt to talk with him. 'What is she trying to do?' He pondered as he cast a glance at the black-haired woman.

"Oh, you sound like you were expecting me." Leila asked with a chuckle.

"What do you want, little girl? Could it be that you are going to ask for my mercy?" Leo asked arrogantly.

'I'm going to die.' He cringed as he heard his own tone. Still, it was something he needed to do as he didn't want Leila to notice something wrong with his behavior. Just like Celia did when he acted too humanly in front of her.

Also, he could somehow make her drop her guards if he acted like an overconfident and arrogant prick.

"Oh! No, no, you are wrong. I am here to present you with an opportunity." She answered.

"An opportunity? You are the one behind this mess it would seem." Leo asked with narrowed eyes as he looked at the ongoing fight between the frenzied Bel and the pissed Blake.

"You can say something like that." She answered as if it was nothing, but Leo could notice a certain pride hidden behind that indifference.

"And here I thought humans were as dumb as they looked. But it looks like they are more despicable than dumb." Leo said with scorn.

"Humph." Leila snorted, apparently offended by Leo’s comment. "So, what do you think about working with me to kill Blake and then go our separate ways. I have a grudge with him so.." She asked as she still didn’t forget her goal.

"No." Leo said flatly.

"Why? You should really think about it." She insisted.

"Little girl, you should already consider yourself lucky that I bothered to talk to you. Not talking about the fact that I don’t need your help to deal with those weaklings, you should remember that you and I are enemies. So thank you, but no." He said. "All I can promise is to make your death less painful." Leo said with a fiendish grin.

"Damn, I thought you were somehow different from other beasts, but look like I was wrong." She cursed as she glared at Leo.

'Well, it looks like she brought my acting.' Leo thought as he studied the angry-looking Leila.

"You should seriously consider it." She said. "Otherwise, you are going to regret it."

"Chuckle, I already told you, you are too weak to amount anything in front of us." Leo said. "Also, shouldn’t you be worried about your safety, or do you think your partner is so dumb that he won’t notice that something is wrong."

"Looks like I have to show some of my cards." She muttered with a frown. " I admit that you are powerful, but you can’t beat Blake." She said.

"Why?" Leo asked calmly. But inside, his heart was beating wildly as he could finally find the source of his unease.

"He can borrow the power of a rank B for a short time. Even you would die in front of such might." She said with a mocking look in her eyes.

'I knew it. I would have indeed ended with a nuke in the face.' Leo thought happily, but he didn’t show it on his face. Instead, he looked very startled and he turned his gaze toward Blake, looking at him with an increased level of wariness.

"And don’t even think about escaping." She added

'…. Who told you I was going to run away?' Leo thought as he never had the intention to run away, to begin with. Even though Blake was supposed to be able to unleash a might equal to that of a B rank, Leo knew that he won’t be able to last too long in such a state. Also, Leo was confident that with all the means he has, he wouldn’t die before Blake’s power-up was used up. And once that happens...

However, he showed nothing of that and asked. "What makes you think I can’t escape?"

"I know Blake, that’s why. With how big of a grudge he had with you, he would never stop until he had your life. Even if you escape now, you will never find peace as he will hunt you relentlessly." She said.

"None can be sure about what will happen the next time I see him." Leo said confidently.

"Who would have thought you were a coward? An almighty beast like you is going to run away in front of a ‘weak’ human." She said, trying to provoke Leo. "Besides, what do you think will happen to your little friend's family after you run away?"

"Are you threatening me?" He asked coldly as he didn’t like the turn the discussion was taking.

"Nononono, I wouldn’t dare. I am just showing you your different options. If you aren’t as dumb as you seemed to be, we should have a deal right." Leila said with a smirk.

"I don’t care. Believe it not, if you ever try to threaten me again, I wouldn’t hesitate an instant before killing you." He said. Even without a threat, Leo was already considering cooperating with Leila. From how he saw things, it didn’t have any obvious disadvantages. Still, he couldn’t let her think that she could do whatever she wanted or she would think she had the upper hand.

"Alright, my bad. So are you ready to work with me now?" She asked.

"Oh, and let me give you an additional reason to trust me. I am not a human. And I really want to kill Blake." She said as she threw Leo a wink.

"We have a deal." He said. Even though Leila was a bitch, it wasn’t a bad idea to work with her. With her, it would undoubtedly be easier to deal with Blake. As for how he would deal with her afterward, he will think about it once he gets there.

"Finally, it wasn’t that difficult, right?" She said with a smile. "Okay, we still have some time so I should be able to tell you one or two things about Blake." She said as he threw a glance at her two companions.

Meanwhile, the fight between Blake and Bel was still going on and almost reached its climax. As Blake understood that he couldn’t reason with Bel, he stopped pulling his hits and started attacking to kill.

"Haha, Blake, let me give you a gift before I leave. " A bloodied Bel laughed crazily as he drew his bow with all his might.

"Fuck you, Bel." Blake said as he grabbed his grimoire and readied his defense with utmost focus. Uncaring of the mana cost, he instantly cast four of his most powerful shields.

Having fought with Bel for many years, he knew perfectly well how powerful the skill Bel was about to use was. And had he been left the choice, he would have never wished to be on the receiving end of this arrow. Even less, when two monsters were eyeing him in the back.

"I guess this is my cue." Leo thought as he looked at the dark red arrow which was exuding an overbearing presence.

"Celia." He called.

"On it." She said as she grabbed her staff and started chanting a spell.

At the same time, Blake who was already cursing Bel with all his might felt the surge of magic energy behind him and instinctively looked at Celia.

'I guess I should have expected this.' He said as he wasn’t too surprised to see Celia and Leo ready to take advantage of the situation. 'Still, it is quite troublesome.' He said as he looked around, trying to find the missing Lion.

He didn’t know when, but the Lion had somehow vanished from the clearing, and from the power of his concealment, he knew he wouldn’t be able to find it.

"Looks like I have to be ready to use my master's power." He thought as he understood how unfavorable the situation was for him. Even if he could somehow deal with Bel and Celia’s attacks, he wasn’t sure he could defend against an additional sneak attack.

'Well, this could also be an opportunity. I can kill him if he sneaks up on me. Also, there is Leila here…' He muttered as he quickly formulated a plan. The only variable was Leila as he was unable to understand what she had in her head.

"Heaven’s drill." Bel said as he let go of the arrow. Instantly, an arrow that was spinning so fast that it seemed to be a raging storm flashed through the air and slammed into Blake's defenses like a meteor.

BAANG

It went through the Frost boundary as if it didn’t exist, shredded the Water membrane in an instant, and was only slowed when it collided with the durable Crystal guard. Still, the crystal guard too was quickly covered in cracks and shattered, giving way to the arrow that was finally stopped by the Deep sea shield.

Still, before Blake could rejoice and reorganize his defenses, Celia finished her spell.

"Sun chasing arrow." Celia whispered as a massive fire arrow flashed and slammed inside the Deep sea shield.

BOOOOM. An immense explosion engulfed Blake and his last defense collapsed weakly vaporized by Celia’s mighty blaze and he was sent flying like a ragdoll.

'He should be coming now, right?' Blake thought as he rolled on the ground ready to deal with Leo’s sneak attack.

Unfortunately for him, he was snuck attacked, but not by the person he expected. As he was standing up, a dark beam suddenly flashed toward him, aiming at his heart.

"Fuck." He cursed as he desperately tried to dodge. Fortunately, for him, he managed to avoid being hit in a vital spot. And he felt even more fortunate when he saw how the beam drained the mana inside his last defense and left his right chest with a deep hole.

"LEILA, YOU BITCH." He roared as he saw the blackened and rotting flesh around his injury.

"Tsk, you indeed managed to avoid it. Lucky bastard." Leila said as she looked at Blake.

"Was it you? Bel?" Blake asked as he seemed to understand something.

"Yeah, impressive, right? Who would have expected that Bel hated you so much? I thought he would wake up after you hit him one or two times. But he actually fought with you to death." She said with a smirk.

"How?"

"Suggestion magic. Whisper of the devil. Do you know? The poor guy was so badly hit when he saw Rin’s state that I only needed to say a few words to make him go berserk. Too easy." She said.

"So that’s how it is. Why?" Blake asked with an enraged expression.

"Because……. I wanted to."
