Chapter 3: C2: Player Interface

A short moment later, Jack reopened his eyes with a look of understanding on her face as she understood everything, and decided to act the part of a native of this world, putting the thoughts about his true identity to the back of his mind.

[You've opened the limited welcoming gift pack!]

[Obtained 1x Limited Pet Summoning Card, 10x Scrap, 2x Iron Ore, 1x Return Crystal, 10x Bronze Coin]

Jack organized her rewards with a faint smile on her face.

In the early stages, gift packs were an easy source of players' income, since the money drop rate from low-level monsters is extremely low at a 10% drop rate. Of course, the higher the monster's level and rank, the higher the drop rate for money.

As for scrap, everyone had thought it was useless since it had no description and players couldn't use it until they were level 5, so a lot of players would sell it to merchants or shopkeepers for a few bronze coins. However, everyone who did sell their scrap soon regretted it once its hidden use was revealed.

Forge station. Scrap was the absolute necessity to repair equipment since it reduces the cost by the amount of scrap used. For example, a wooden sword has a durability of 20, and a piece of scrap repairs 1 durability, if the durability of the sword reaches 1, it'll only need 19 scraps to repair it whereas having no scrap would cost 10 bronze coins.

To get a better understanding, a wooden sword usually sells for 15 bronze coins, a full meal at an inn would cost 3 bronze, and a leather set costs 40 bronze coins. The difference in repairing through scrap and bronze coins is worlds apart. Scrap also had another hidden function... But that's for a later time.

Unlike the giftpacks, kits will always have the same items inside them depending on the type of kit. The starter kits for example had 2 loaves of bread, 1 canteen of water, a leather hood, a leather chest plate, leather leggings, leather boots, and a wooden weapon for your class.

Everyone started with the same gear, and the food was only enough to sustain a player's activities for a day.

This was to encourage players to complete quests or to help Natives (NPCs) with small tasks. The difference between the two is that Quests are officially given a reward while tasks will sometimes have no reward at all. However, tasks would increase favorability a lot more than quests.

Amidst her thoughts, Jack finally arrived at the local Merchant Store.

Merchant stores are found in all human settlements, other races also had merchant stores with varying products and specialties. Items can be placed to be bought or traded with other players, but there was a handling fee that depended on the quantity and quality of the items sold.

Name: Scrap (x10)

Type: Material

Details: None

Price: 5 Bronze coins

Jack bought 20 pieces of scrap instantly emptying out her pockets, but there was no hesitation in her eyes. With her knowledge, she can easily earn hundreds of bronze coins in just a few hours.

[You have entered the Regional Communications Channel]

[TooHandsomeForYou: Looking for cute girls to party up! This daddy will carry you but only if you're cute!]

[TooRichForYou: Don't listen to the guy above, he's a total scumbag! I once saw him hunting a pack of monsters, but when things went south, he mercilessly sacrificed his teammates to escape on his own! What a coward!]

[Glacial Knight: Attention players! Permafrost is currently accepting new members, please message me your coordinates and we can further discuss the procedures, experienced players only!]

[JustPickARandomName: Uh, hey guys, how do I put on armor? Can someone carry me? Hello?]

[Blazing Daily: Fuck! Seniors, please help! I dropped all my food when I died, I can't fill my hunger bar! God, I don't want to die of hunger!]

[...]

Most of the messages she read in the communications channel were players trolling and useless information but she still decided to lurk in the channel as she left the town towards the forest.

[You have left Thousand Valley Town and are no longer safe from wild beasts]

[Now entering Thousand Valley Forest]

Thousand Valley Town was situated near the center of a large grass plane, with a dark misty forest on one side and a large swamp on the other. And as the name suggests, at least a thousand valleys are surrounding the town.

Jack who was casually walking along the path was very conspicuous amongst the other parties who were also heading towards the forest or taking a break on the hills.

"Hey newbie, you aren't going to head in there alone are you? Why not team with us? We just cleared a few wild boars and taking a break right now, most of us also went alone so we all know how it feels to die and lose a few pieces of equipment" said a rather honest-looking young man.

Before Jack could respond, a shady-looking guy sneered before saying "are you sure this kid won't be a bigger burden on us? We already have enough luggage as it is." The luggage he was referring to was the two kids sitting to the side with gloomy faces.

"Sorry, I'm going in alone," Jack replied.

Others would often mistake her behavior as arrogant but only she knew that she had difficulties interacting with others, and she couldn't be bothered to explain herself either.

"This arrogant bitch! See what we care, but when you die and lose your items, don't come crying to us for help!" With that said, the shady-looking guy huffed and walked away.

"I'm sorry about him, he's actually a soft guy at heart so don't take his words seriously. If you really plan on going in alone, then I suggest you head to the west area of the forest. The spawn rates are lower and there are a lot more players there that can help when in need. Well, good luck then."

Seeing as this person was showing kindness to her, Jack thought for a moment and stopped the guy from leaving.

"Go to these coordinates. If you have someone tank the front of a narrow valley, the rest of your party can dish out damage from a safe distance."

Jack casually left the stunned player behind as she stepped through the forest and disappeared. The honest-looking guy hesitated for a while but decided to trust the mysterious girl. Whether they take the gamble and follow Jack's advice or not was entirely up to them.
