Chapter 2: A Nightmare’s Beginning 1

A 14 year-old girl was walking through the corridors of her school.

Her hair was silver, flowing down all then way to her back, the color of her eyes red. She was rather tall for her age, at around 180cm. She was gorgeous, attracting the eyes of the male students as well as some eyes filled with envy from girls.

As she walked calmly through the corridors, nobody dared to approach her. Mainly because of the air she had around her. It was so cold that one would question whether the temperature actually decreased as they got near her. Since all attempts at talking to her were quickly shot down by her, not even teachers were excluded from this attitude.

If that wasn't enough to stop them from approaching her, then the other students would. Whoever tried to approach her would get bombarded by angry students for even taking a chance at becoming her friend, possibly stealing away their chances of doing so. Not that it would happen, as everyone who tried were shot down by the same expressionless face.

This girl was referred to as the Ice Queen in this school.

"Hey!" a boy's voice called out from behind to her.

She turned around, wearing her expressionless face as she always did, which unnerved the boy, realizing his chances are slim.

"U-Uhh... I was thinking if we could h-hang out t-together." The boy stuttered.

Is he even trying? This is literally the worst attempt yet from all of the boys. Don't they get I don't want to talk to them?

The girl looked at the boy in the eyes. Locking him in a small staring contest that continued on for what seemed to be forever for the boy. Those cold red eyes froze him in place.
"No." Answered the girl. Her cold voice not allowing any word to come out from the boy's mouth.

The girl in question then turned around and continued walking to her classroom. The boy on the other hand, received massive damage. Just like all the others that tried to talk to the girl.

"Ouch... That's another one."
"His brain stopped working from her stare, he couldn't even form a correct sentence! Just what was that sorry excuse of a attempt at courting her?!"
"In his defense, I don't think many people would be able to keep a calm mind with her staring at you."
"Was he even trying!?"
"I mean, nobody can get close to Aria. Even teachers get unnerved when talking to her."

Many students began talking about the exchange. Fueling this was Aria's popularity in the school. It didn't matter if a student was several years ahead or behind her, everyone in the school knew about Aria, who is nicknamed the Ice Queen of the school.

After reaching her class, she sat down on her desk and placed some books on the table, related to the first subject of the day. Then began reading a book she has brought with her. Keeping her cold aura around her, stopping anyone from approaching.

The classes and breaks passed by slowly for Aria. Who was bored from the classes she was taking. The school she entered was one famous for its great curriculums. Even having custom books being made for the school itself.

That being said, it also means that the teachers are basically just teaching what the book of their subject has. Which Aria had long before read and memorized thanks to her... improved mind. Or maybe minds would be correct.

If it wasn't being suspicious to not attend a school, I would gladly drop out.

The only reason Aria ever goes to school now is to not draw any suspicion towards her regarding the incident that has happened a yesterday and was only found about today.

It has been broadcasted that New Dawn has found ten corpses in an abandoned building. The bodies were in an extremely bad shape that it made even the seasoned Mages who were already used to... not-so-pleasant sights throw up.

The incident is expected to be the action of a shapeshifting monster because of the state of the bodies and the look of terror on the faces of the men who had been murdered, if something that was able to do this was seen by citizens, it would cause a ruckus instantly. That is why it is believed to have shapeshifting capabilities.

Fortunately, the men seemed to be a part of an underground organization. After investigating the sight, the Mages sent have confirmed several documents related to smuggling and selling illegal items. At least they weren't innocent people.

Still, why would the monster attack them specifically? Inside a city too, where there should be barriers to prevent monsters from entering. Its not like monsters can't spawn inside barriers, but people keep passively absorbing mana that there isn't enough of it in the air to transform something.

The monster has been categorized as a C-rank at least, the maximum strength unknown to the investigators. There has also been an order to not leave your home as much as possible.

That's what the news said at least. As long as I am not seen, I will be able to keep this up. If they see me, then they will figure out my Demonic characteristics... But I can't do this if they increase patrols and force everyone to stay home! Streets will be empty, I'll stand out even more like that!

Aria was the one who killed those men, unknown to New Dawn.

Using her Demon form, she mercilessly slaughtered her targets after finding out their deeds.

Its a good thing I can transform into and from Demon form. Makes hiding my identity a lot easier. They should have figured out I'm a Demon, but they reported it as a monster in the city, how strange.

While most Demons would attack humans on first sight, as if they were only beasts. Aria still remains mostly human. Mostly because of the way she became one. Which she easily hid by just giving off an even colder air when she was in public. Since Demons are different from humans, one can get caught. Because even if they look human -which is rare for Demons- they can't act like one.

Demons like killing, and bloodthirst simply oozes out of them.

However, Aria is an exception, she was able to stay human even after Demonization.

After reaching her house, Aria has changed from the school uniform to a more comfortable outfit: A simple red shirt and red pants.

Aria lives alone. Fortunately, she has more than enough money to live until she can get a job. Thanks to her deceased parents inheritance and some "extreme luck", she managed to gamble her way to get a ridiculous sum of money without cheating at all with her telekinesis magic to slightly shift a die to be repeatedly 6, or rotating down some wheels inside a slot machine. Not at all.

"Anyway, school is done for the week. Tomorrow is Saturday, I'll need to find a target in the meantime." Said Aria indifferently.

She walked from the living room to the study, which had a desk and a computer. Searching on the internet about the same organization she had attacked yesterday.

"There is nothing here." Said Aria. After searching for more than 2 hours, she wasn't able to find anything more about them.

Then Aria quickly remembered something. Something that made her lips slightly curve into a smile.

"Looks like I have to check their databases. They ought to have something there."
