Chapter 3: A Nightmare’s Beginning 2

[ Aria POV ]

"Something feels off about New Dawn's news reports." I say as I navigated through some files on my computer.

I wrote a message to them, this should have shown them that whatever is responsible for the incident is a Demon. An intelligent Demon, since most Demons have literally room temperature IQ other than me from previous encounters. That is information I got on New Dawn's website, which lists all the Demons that were defeated by them and information about them. Why would that be there? Probably to show the world their accomplishments.

This can only mean two things:
First, they did not receive the message. This means that someone either removed the blood or hid it through some means like painting it. Highly unlikely because whoever would see the message would freak out that someone wrote something using blood in the first place.

Second, they did catch the message. And at the same time managed to hide it. This means they want to hide the existence of a Demon inside the city. They are probably doing this to not cause a commotion, since Demons are a pretty scary thing for the citizens.

The second is probably what took place when the incident was discovered. Because the chances of the first one happening is extremely low.

Right now, I am looking through New Dawn's database. I've hacked into the database just a few days ago, it also gave me information about the organization I attacked yesterday. Unfortunately, everyone that uses the database can be seen as online by the other users. This makes it very difficult to keep New Dawn from finding out about an unknown user entering their database, especially because of how large they are.

Anyway, since they investigated the scene, they probably got some documents from there. Maybe even a location about a destination for their smuggling? That would be great for me.

But even if they do have the documents, they don't have any reason to upload them to the database. So now, I am looking through it to find a different target. Criminal rates increased because of the addition of magic, which means that guns lost their superiority as weapons to magic.

In other words, I am bound to find aa wanted criminal if I have enough time before someone logs on. As for the smugglers, I expect New Dawn to dispatch some officers for them at night. Specifically from the nearest branch to that abandoned building, which is not far away from my house, at least not far while I am in Demon form.

So I would follow the officers to the location of the base, then attack the base before them. Simple and easy plans. No need to make anything complicated.

Ting!

Log off now!

Okay... Didn't manage to get anything from them. Someone logged on, I will just have to hope they didn't realize someone was on before them.

I do not know the location of the smugglers' base. So I will now just head towards the New Dawn branch in my city, Andtol.

I head outside my house. Then I begin walking towards the branch. It is not far from my home, only a 15-minute trip for me, who has heightened abilities thanks to demonization. For a normal person, it might take an hour walking. Not a distance one would like to walk to, most would rather drive, but I can't drive, not that I need it.

I have arrived at the branch. The building itself stands out a bit. The walls are white, two column of windows on each of the walls, one to the right and the other to the left. There is no door, just a doorway here. It is because in the case of an emergency, a door would slow down the staff, apparently. (Can they not just push the door? Or does that take so much time out of them that they decided to leave their buildings without walls?)

It is currently just before evening. If I am going to wait here, I will definitely look suspicious. Because of that, I hide in a dark alley near the New Dawn branch that still gives me a clear view of the entrance. I then use magic to change my appearance to have black hair and eyes, as well as black clothes to be as unnoticeable as possible. My clothes, hair and eyes quickly shift their own colors to black. While I did not have illusion magic before, it is possible now since it is one of the three benefits that came with my demonization, the ability to use many types of magic.

The second one is an enhanced body. My stamina has grown tremendously, I could probably run as fast as I can for several hours without tiring. My strength, speed, endurance, and senses also received very large increases. I could probably punch through a wall in human form, without my Demon form.

The last one, which I am going to use tonight, is the ability to transfer between my human and Demon forms. Since my Demon form is huge, this is probably the best one out of all of the benefits of my demonization. Because once a human becomes a Demon, they are stuck in their Demon form, unlike me. That would have been annoying to deal with if I couldn't transform.

I have gotten off topic... Anyway, now I just lean on a wall of the alley as I browse through the internet. Occasionally taking a glance towards the entrance of the New Dawn branch.

It would seem I was correct. Currently, it is 9PM, they have finally moved. Five officers have gathered outside the entrance. Their uniforms are blue, like a cop's.

I start following them, using illusion magic to make myself blend in the background. Sadly, I can't make myself invisible, I am not at that level yet, since there are many more types of magic that could be trained instead of illusion that are useful enough that I even lost some sleep just training them. One would be telekinesis, which would allow me to fly when I focus.

It is fortunate that they do not notice me while they head towards our destination. Probably because they do not think someone was watching them from the entrance of the branch, and is now following them from more than 200 meters away to not be heard by them.

After about fifteen minutes, we arrive at another seemingly abandoned building. They have stopped in front of it, so this must be their destination. As insurance, I strain my ears, and I can then catch them talking as if they were whispering.

"This is their base?"

"It seems so. Our orders are to scout how strong the enemy is. Another group of officers would come and attack the base instead. Is this clear?"

"""Understood!"""

Okay, so they are coming here for information gathering? Then they are not combat-oriented, which means I can knock them out easily. Then I can head inside and attack the base myself. This time, take whatever documents there are and immediately attack the other bases.

Why do I do this, you ask? My main drive is to destroy criminals like these smugglers, but also I want to be known as a negotiable person. If I reveal myself normally, I would be attacked instantly. I want to reveal that I have good intentions, unlike other Demons. This is going to be considerably hard since people think all Demons are bad, they would not think about me being an exception, they would attack me like they attacked the others before.

Now I dispel my illusions, and instead activate my Demon form.

First off, my line of sight gets higher. Then my lower half gets bigger, a lot bigger.

My legs transform into a big, white, fluffy haired head, my hair color then changes to vantablack, looking at it, no light is reflected, as if I am looking at an endless void.

Behind me, I find my abdomen. A giant white oval that is as high as my head in my current height, covered in the same fluffy white hair. My abdomen is connected to me via my new lower head, which has four pairs of deep blue eyes. Connected to my head I find 4 pairs of limbs.

They are my legs. Most of them are pointy at the end, like a spear. But the front two are not. The front two are more like sickles. The blades of them are extremely sharp too. All eight legs can act as weapons, the front pair for slashing and the rest for stabbing. My legs don't have the white fluffy hair, fortunately. Because they would get dirty quickly if they did.

Yes, I am an Arachne.
