It was not hard to reunite with the allied forces, neither it was hard to hand them over the prisoners.
Boom Boom
The problem was that we are near the frontline.
When I stood on the top of the turret I could see a settlement in the binoculars. For me it was a number of spires behind a forest but for the allies it was their main objective, as well as the place of their possible death.
However, even that was not the main issue as we are kilometers away from the enemy and the fire. We still have to repair the suspension…
“How is it?”
“I can say for sure that one torsion is turned into powder but for the rest it is hard to tell. There are two more that might need replacement.” (O)
“Then we are better to do it at once. Can it be done by the evening?” I unscrewed the cover of the instrument box.
“If we are lucky and everything goes smoothly we might do it. If.” (O)
“Then I will try to remove the skirts while you order the torsions.” [The rubber skirts that cover the tracks.]
“I have a better suggestion. Give me the wrench.” (O)
“Don’t worry, I can…”
“It was not a suggestion. Just give me the damned thing.” (O)
“Whatever…” I pushed him the wrench and started writing down the required items.
The guys were starting to decrease the track’s tension and by the end of the hour they were done.
“Ugh…” I dragged a long metal bar I received from the supply drop.
“What’s the progress?”
“If we will be done by the end of the day it will be a miracle. Put that thing there, I’ll pick it up myself.” (J)
“Is there something I can help with?”
“You can stand on guard, you can cook us something, or sing us a song…” (J)
‘Clang’
“As you say.”
‘Clang’
I folded the stock and hanged the rifle on my shoulder. I will only need to pull the charging handle and open fire.
Old man’s POV
“Give me that thing.”
“Bez problem.” [No problem.] (J)
“UUUGH!”
A screw finally surrendered and I removed the cover of the torsion. We were ready to unscrew the torsion itself and replace it.
“CAPTAIN, WILLING TO JUMP ON A LONG AND HARD OBJECT?” (J)
She ran here immediately. The lost strength she compensates with eagerness, even though her jumps will not help to unscrew the nuts or move the wrench even a bit.
Dima set up the wrench and supported her while she was preparing to jump. And also he put his boot on the end of the wrench.
“Raz!” [One!] She jumped.

“Iii raz!” [And once more!] And again.
“Iii eshe raz~! Waaa!” [And one more time! Waaa!] The wrench moved and Dima had to catch her. Neither of us will mention that her feeble body only was there and the actual force applied belongs to Dima’s leg…
We two tied a cable around the torsion and pulled it. Our commander panted nearby.
“Captain, I understand that you want to help but you are more of a nuisance.”
“Am I…?” She was disheartened in a moment.
“You are. Better bring us some water and heat a ration pack.”
Now that she was no longer caught under our feet, the work accelerated.
A. Belov’s POV
I put the ration pack on a field stove and waited.
I want to scream. I keep wondering if there is something useful I can do, aside from doing the chores.
Like, I am an officer. I was taught to do all of the things my crewmates do now.
Boom Boom
Occasional artillery shots in the distance helped me concentrate.
“Hey, girl, do you know where I can find the rusan mercenaries’ commander?” A man approached.
“You are talking to him.” I picked up the heated ration and put the next.
The man stood nearby for a minute before asking.
“Are you serious…?” (M)
“I am dead serious.” It is faster to cook a hot pot than to heat those things.
“Lord Commander has called for you (?) to attend the planning.” (M)
“Where and when?”
“Right now at the Lord Commander’s tent.” (M)
“Buddy, are you an imbecile?”
“Erhm… no…?” (M)
“Then go pass your request on to the Supreme commander-in-chief’s administration.”
“Where is it…?” (M)
“NOW YOU ARE ASKING A DAMN GOOD QUESTION, BUDDY. WHERE THE F* IS IT?”
“I’m sorry Ma’am! I will lead you there right away!” (M)
“Hold the horses. Jester, are you busy?”
“Negative.” (J)
“Go to the stove. I am requested to attend a meeting. The rations are heated so come and take them.”
“Understood.” (J)
“Lead the way.”
